Hirgon was a Gondorian errand-rider. He looked very like Boromir, being tall, proud and grey-eyed. He was dressed in a cloak of dark green over a coat of mail. The front of his helm bore a small silver star.

Hirgon brought a single Red Arrow from Denethor to Théoden at Dunharrow. This was a traditional token between Gondor and Rohan telling of impending war.

It is presumed that he was killed when trying to return to Minas Tirith, for he certainly did not manage to get back to that city.
