A tree that grew in Gondor; little is known of it, except that it was fair, and beloved by the woodworkers of that land. The wood of lebethron was used by woodwrights to make all sorts of different things. The Men of the White Mountains used staves of lebethron for travelling in the wild.

The black wood staves given by Faramir to Frodo and Sam were made of lebethron wood, as was the cask bound with silver in which he brought the Crown of Gondor to Aragorn's coronation.

Meanings:
The meaning of lebethron is unknown. The word "lebet" means "finger" and might reference the shape of the lebethron's leaves. The word "thron" could be derived from "doron" meaning "oak." Thus lebethron might mean "fingered oak."

Another meaning: The word "leb" means "stay or remain" and "thrôn" or "tharn" means "stiff or hard", so the name "lebethron" could refer to the tree's hard wood.
