According to the lore of the Dwarves, their race was descended in antiquity from Seven Houses, each of which had its own Founding Father. The eldest and most royal of these Seven Fathers was Durin I, widely called 'The Deathless'. The names of the other Fathers were not recorded in the Annals of the Shire.
