Whenever anyone approached the summit of the Meneltarma, three eagles- the Witnesses of Manwë- would appear and land on three rocks near the western edge of the mountaintop. At the Erukyermë, the Erulaitalë, and the Eruhantalë, however, the eagles would not alight upon the rocks, instead remaining in the sky and hovering above the people. It was believed that the Witnesses were sent by Manwë from Aman for the purpose of keeping watch upon the Meneltarma and Númenor.
