To conlude the vowels we need one more: when the vowel ‘i’ is in the beginning of a word before another vowel or a diphthong it is pronounced as an English ‘y’. In tengwar we denote it by:
There’s only one tengwa left and it is not used by everyone (in fact most writers just ignore it). It is called gasdil and is used to denote a ‘g’ that has disappeared because of a mutation (in the Latin rendition of Sindarin it is represented by an apostrophe). It looks as follows:
