Dear Frodo,

I have started out on my adventure to see the elves and already I miss you. I want you to remember to remain quiet in the Shire, and for no reason do you show the ring that I gave to you to anyone else. It is a precious ring, and I have given you quite a burden to take the ring where it must go. You can trust the wizard, Gandalf, he has been my friend for many years. And, if you must, you can also trust Sam. Under no means do you trust the two troublemakers Pippin and Merry. They would hurt you and you would never be able to accomplish your task. Just do what I told you. Stay away from the main roads and travel at night. If you have to meet with Gandalf, make sure that its in a public place and you travel with an assumed name. I am counting on you Frodo, to bring the ring to its final destination. I wish you all the luck on your journey. And I look forward to meeting the elves.

Bilbo

P.S.

Give my regards to Gandalf when you see him.
