Bilbo began to hum his favourite travellers tune. He was happily lounging on his bed, fumbling around with his travel sack.
He was planning what he would say to Frodo when he finally reached the young hobbit, that is of course if Frodo was still living on the soils of Middle Earth!
Bilbo was a little sketchy on how the things were going with the Fellowship. He had managed to over hear some of Elrond’s grave meetings about the plan of attack. He had heard talk of a death, Bilbo suspected that the deceased could have been Frodo seeing as they kept saying:
“Now that Frodo and his chum have departed, the quest has become more un-even, but it still is possible.”
Bilbo’s eyes began to fill with tears; he took a
deep breath and said a quick prayer for Frodo.
Bilbo still had hope though, maybe Frodo had found his duties to expectant, and started on his way home. Or Denthor of Gondor could have passed on and the Fellowship stay in Gondor apart from Frodo and Samwise.
But Bilbo knew that he had to go on this last journey, whether it be to grieve the spot where Frodo fell, or to bump into Frodo while Frodo was making his way to the Shire or to watch Frodo’s finest hour.

Suddenly a large Gong sounded, “Time for luncheon” muttered Bilbo. And with that, Bilbo sprang up and briskly strolled through the many halls in the house of Elrond.
When Bilbo arrived in the banqueting room, he was met by a surprise. Lady Galadriel was sitting on the right side of Elrond. As Bilbo edged into his seat he heard a glimpse of the Lady’s conversation:
“Lord Elrond, I have seen many things in my mirror, some things I don not know if they shall come to pass. I must find out or there shall be a great peril!”
“My Lady, if you would please follow me?”
And with that the two elves left their chairs and passed through a door at the back of the hall, one that Bilbo had never noticed before!
After luncheon Bilbo secretly crept into the Kitchen to steal some food for the long quest. Luckily, Lady Galadriel had brought some gifts from Lothlorien, so there was plenty of Lembas in stock!
When Bilbo returned to his room he found it was very close to leaving time. He quickly made sure he had the bear essentials:
His book,
His Trusted Predecessor’s Map’s,
A light, long supply of food,
Spare cape and extra garments,
And last, but not least a spare pipe and tobacco!
Bilbo thrust his sword into its sheath. Then

he took out an envelope addressed to Elrond. The letter like this:
My good friend Elrond,
I am departing your wonderful residence of Rivendell. I do this not because I am ungrateful, but because I must see Frodo. I have heard that he has departed the Fellowship. I wish to find out the definition of “departed” in Frodo’s case, though I will not stay to find out. I am sorry for the Lembas and provisions that I have taken. I hope Arwen Undomiel has a safe journey to the Grey Havens.
Yours Sincerely
Bilbo Baggins
And with that, Bilbo swept up his bag and staff and went out for a last smoke of his pipe in Rivendell.
