Daymares

It was raining in the fair realm of Imladris, and she was lying under the trees in the grass, right in the midst of it all. She had been dozing for quite some time, her book, long forgotten, lying saturated on the ground beside her.

The shadow chuckled at its own luck. She was also alone. This was far too easy. As long as she remained in her slumber, the shadow was free to take her wherever it wished for its sinister experiments. It crept stealthily towards her, the rain altogether ignoring the shadow’s presence and passing straight through it.

The elleth struggled to remove herself from the dream. She was passing through darkness and mist, to where and to what purpose she did not know. She awakened with a jerk, to see the dark form of a shriveled hand pulling quickly away.

The shadow muffled a curse and faded from sight.

The elven maiden gazed upwards, shaking the water out of her eyes, but saw nothing. An ill breeze with a musty smell swept across her face, leaving her alone once more, and unknowing whether it had been but a figure from her imagination, or something much, much more.
