The stranger sat at her uncle’s table eating cheese and wine with his companions, a beautiful black onyx ring on his righ hand. He had the most stately of bearing, but he was a ranger, one who lived openly in the wild, and did not come to civilization very often.
He watched Eowyn put away her beautiful sword, in her chest, so that she and her brother Eoer and his guards might practice later. Her uncle, Theoden was better, but she knew better than to ask any of the kings guard to do sword practice with her. And then she saw the Lord Aragorn, take out his sword, and fence a little bith with the elf. Legolas. Legolas had beautiful skill with a blade, and started to fence a little with Eowyn. He was much better than her, and then it was her turn to fence with the Lord Aragorn.
Aragorn had much skill with a blade, he had trained with a sword since he wa a boy, and he started to show Eowyn some beautiful moves with a sword that she would need to use if she had to defend herself. They practiced for about a half hour, and in token payment for the elf and the lord fencing with her, she came from the kitchen with newly ripened strawberries and clotted cream and a cake for their dessert. Aragorn made her smile and feel alive again. Gimli made her laugh, and it was Aragorn who talked to her while they ate their treat, and wanted to know about her life in Rohan, and how was the land now that her uncle the king was in charge again. It was Aragorn that offered to take her walking outside so that he could teach her to guide herself at night with the stars. It was the start of a friendship it was the start of Eowyn’s love for Aragorn, who loved another.
