Laughing under the moonlit trees
We sang an eldar song
In a place where no one sees
We danced the whole night long

The moon beams elegantly shone down
And the brooks flowed by
When suddenly our smiles turned to frowns
And we all let out a shrill cry

Chasing, fighting, slaying
Morgoth’s servants rode in
Running, screaming, praying
I hid from them with my kin

In the clear sky clouds come
Covering up the silver moon
The orcs capture and away drag some
While I fear imprisonment soon

My hearts speed quickened
As they slowly turned to me
And the tension thickened
As I wondered if they can see me

Calmly I stayed in place
Hoping they’ll overlook
My small hiding space
But me they roughly took

Roughly they took me away
Deep under the ground
To the dungeons dark and gray
Where I could not be found

I wept long and hard
About my future fate
I looked out the window barred
And knew it was to late

I would be soon forgot
Trapped here forever
And never even sought
Forced to work the wheel and lever

I was a fallen star, an abandoned elven child
A mere slave, a hated thrall
Taken from her home mild
To serve in the dark lords hall

The hammers and metals clanked
While the trees burned and broke
The stones ground and the wheels cranked
As we worked stroke by stroke

The whips loudly cracked
And voices screamed cries
But the work never slacked
And was often our demise

Our faces were brave and grim
But behind them hearts were breaking
Tears streamed down from our eyes dim
As inside our spirits were quaking

As our tears came rapidly falling
We could remember and crave
Our old lives that always seemed to be calling
Yet, we strived to remain brave

Time past like days as years
So slow it was cruel
My nights were filled with fears
For I was not yet I mindless fool

One night I began weep
But a gentle voice called to me
And told to take sleep
Yet, who it was I could not see

In the next cell sat a faint outline
That spoke in the elven tongue
And was of the same kin as mine
And sometimes softly sung

I got to know that voice well
And was no longer alone
We spoke of how we fell
But now a light in the darkness shone

He was a young elf
That had been taken from all he cherished
And he was much like myself
For at a time he nearly perished

He gave me a reason to give
He gave me a reason to try
He gave me a reason to live
For he was a comfort when I would cry

After time our love grew
Both quick and deep
And we both knew
Our affections we would keep

Often we would hold each others hand
As we would together dream
Of a far off and fair land
And of stars that would gleam

Once I was allowed to leave the caverns
For I was to run an errand above the ground
I breathed and free air and danced a few turns
Suddenly from behind me a heard a sound

I turned about to see a elf standing there
He was tall agile and strong
His eyes were blue and brown was his hair
I knew who he was before a second long

Meneldil! I whispered with a smile
As I looked at him for the first time in the light
There we talked for a little while
And he held me close and tight

The stars were scattered like bits of burning glass
Streaked across the sky
Lost in the great dark mass
I felt like I could fly

He pulled out a small thing
A thing that shimmered
That was attached to a string
And in my hand glimmered

It was a silver pendent he had made
Wrought in the shape of a star
And by my heart it stayed
By making this he took a risk by far

This pleasant meeting had to end
So he drew me near once in one last kiss
And we mourned that we had no time to spend
So there ended our one night of bliss

That was when we knew
The had to escape soon
When our spirits flew
At the sight of the moon

So we plotted how to be free
We knew that we would try
To escape and faraway flee
Or we would fail and die

After much planning
After much thought
After much scanning
We finally had a plot

We would go down a secret path
A forgotten twisted way
Hoping to escape their wrath
By taking no delay

That night we used his key
The unlock our rooms
And away started to flee
Hoping we wouldn’t meet our dooms

Entering an abandoned well
We started down the tunnel
It was so slick I nearly fell
For here the waters would funnel

Once through this we had past
We knew we were not yet free
The hardest challenge was last
A gate was around us as far as an eye can see

Its huge metal doors raised up high
Swarming guards surrounded it
And its spikes threatened the sky
Approaching it like shadows we flit

If it was a stroke of luck
Or just fate’s choice
A loud noise struck
And there sounded a voice

It boomed and open the gate swung
Several orcs marched through
And in their weapons flung
And a few prisoners to

We met in a quick embrace
Then we prepared run
And bolted through the space
Just at the rising of the sun

We ran away from our fears
Out away from hell
Followed by whizzing spears
But neither of us fell

Fleeing without looking back
We hoped not to be found
Away from their attack
We heard waters sound

We had fled for a while
Into the forest deep
Not yet ready to smile
Or even take some sleep

A darkness followed behind
A threat was growing
Around the forest it would wind
Our pace was slowing

For a while we set aside
Each worry and care
And enjoyed the world outside
The trees bright and fair

Underneath a malorn tree
And by the waters calm
We ceased to flee
And felt the winds balm

About us the shadows of twilight crept
As we called upon Eru
Out of joy I quietly wept
About us doves flew

The stars above shimmered
And the doves softly cooed
The light of our eyes glimmered
As bright as the mornings dew

Shortly after we were blessed
To find a small mare
Though it wasn’t the best
Both of us it could bear

Along the rode we found our needs
Not fearing hunger or thrist
The Valar answered our pleads
As we begged for them upon our knees

The days that followed passed
Without count or care
Fear was in the past
And happiness was there

Yet, a road roughens
And as a star fades
Our challednges toughened
As the enemy searched the glades

I felt that we were not alone
We were being observed
I froze like a stone
And then then quickly swerved

There were eyes in the brush
As piercing as a blade
My face went flush
As a figure entered the glade

With a scream I fled
With Meneldil at my side
My mind was filled with dread
As the light of all hope died

They chased and hunted us
Like it was all a game
Their bows were aimed at us
And arrows swiftly came

They came in like rain,
A shower of death,
A intended bane.
To take our last breath

Slowly they fell behind
We were almost out of sight
A light of hope shined
Like a star in the night

Yet, one last arrow flew
Past a mallorn tree
And in the wind blew
Before it hit me

It met its appointed mark
And pierced my side
Its point sharp and stark
Made the chase backslide

I fell to the ground
Letting out a scream
I was death bound
It was like a horrid dream

Quickly he removed it
And bore me away
Using all his whit
He found a safe place to stay

He tended to me
And told me to take rest
To the Valar I made a plea
To help their eldar distressed

As I drifted into sleep
My life I tried to keep
A tear in his eyes deep
Told me he wished to weep

Every time my side would rise
In a steady, full breath
I would see in his eyes
He was thanking Elbereth

Slowly I began to heal
With tender patience
I could begin to feel
A rising confidence

Through the dark and dangerous paths
Past rivers and shimmering lakes
We made our way to Doriath
Treading the easiest paths for my sake

Through the blizzards of Anglon
He was my warmth and hope
His gentle hand made me walk-on
And helped me to cope

Finally at the last sunset
The woods became fair
And there was no need to fret
For I had been there

We had reached our goal
Our dreams had come true
I could rest my soul
The shadows we had past through
