(Sam’s POV)
I awoke from my comfortable sleep to someone shaking me and calling my name.

“Come on Sam-lad. Time to get up,” my gaffer says.

I groan and roll over onto my back. “Just a few
more minutes, Pop.”

Pop sighs and takes a seat on my bed. He crosses his arms across his chest and says; “I guess you don’t want to help in Mr. Bilbo’s garden today.”

My eyes open wide and I immediately sit up in bed.

“I’m ready!” I shout happily.

My gaffer sits back and chuckles.

“Oh no you’re not. You need to get dressed and eat first.”

I nod and throw off the covers and run to my closet. Pop laughs at my excitement as he leaves my room.

Once my clothes are on I make a mad dash for the kitchen where I see my plate has already been filled and set at the table waiting for me.

My mum is standing at the counter washing up dishes and humming a little tune.

“Morning, Mum,” I say as I set myself at the table.

“Good morning, Sam,” she says cheerfully. “I see that you’re excited about working in the garden with your dad today.”

I nod as I wolf down my food. I truly couldn’t wait.

“G’morning everyone!” Dad says happily as he walks into the kitchen.

“All set, Sam, my boy?”

I gulp down the last bit of food on my plate and nod.

“Ready.”

“All right then, let’s go.”

Dad grabs his bag of gardening tools and heads out the door with me on his heels.

“Have fun you two, and be careful,” Mum calls out after us.

I wave back and follow my gaffer up the hill to Mr. Bilbo’s garden.

“Okay, Sam. I want you to go and break up the soil over in that patch while I pull some weeds from this patch here,” Pop instructs.

I follow to where he’s pointing and begin my job with a large smile on my face.
