Author’s Note: This is a poem of Celebrian’s thoughts as she reaches Valinor, though it could be applied to any Elf traveling into the west. No apparent rhyme scheme, but who said poetry must rhyme? Disclaimer: Valinor is the creation of J.R.R. Tolkien and I, in no way claim possession of it. The writing itself, minus this reference to Tolkien’s world, belongs to me and I respectfully ask that no one copy it anywhere else without permission. Thank you and enjoy!

I Can Breathe Again

Random breaks in the cloud cover brighten the grayness of my soul with clear, blue delight.
I can breathe again.
The soft breeze gives me leave to sigh,
The green leaves and small flowers, a reason to laugh,
And the smooth winding river, a chance to rest, and sleep in the stillness.
The green grass bids me dance and find that wing-footed freedom I had when my spirit was light.
Ah, the sun!
Warming my face with its gentle caress, it calls me to smile.
This is not the end.
A new beginning waits for me on the shores of Valinor.
Filled with the sweetness of a sip of honey,
The days will heal my wounded heart.
I choose to look past my pain and remove the glaze from my weary eyes.
There is much to see; every moment holds a jewel of opportunity.
I will claim them with this renewed liberty.
I can breathe again.
