The leaves fall
Drifting down
in a gentle death-dance

I watch them
Slipping from everything
Free of their bonds

I try to understand
This letting go of life
I fail though it is before me

It will come to all other life
Time and again
Until all the years are gone

But here I will stand
Forever unknowing
Watching as they fall
