I’m so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave, I wish that you would just leave
Because your presence still lingers here
And it won’t leave me alone

Arwen returned to her chambers with a heavy heart. A few minutes ago, it had
been brimming with joy. A voice in the woods, singing of Luthien Tinuviel.
She followed the voice- ai!! Who was this stranger- this handsome, rugged man walking in the woods? He looked upon her with a strange sort of respect- and the word he uttered when he saw her: “Tinuviel.”
Arwen was puzzled for a moment, then realized- she had been mistaken for her great grandmother, Luthien- the very person this stranger had been singing of. Slowly, she shook her head. “Nay, I am Arwen, daughter of Elrond Peredhil.” The stranger’s eyes widened slightly.Soon, words were not needed between them- words are seldom needed between two in love.
“Walk with me.” The stranger reached out his hand to her. She took it without hesitation, and they spent several hours together, talking, getting to know each other. The stranger’s name was Aragorn, but he went by the name of Estel. When he revealed that he was the heir of Isildur, Arwen’s heart sunk. He was a mortal. She desperately tried to forget him, but she could not. For love is a star that never burns out.

These wounds won’t seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There’s just too much that time cannot erase
When you cried I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you scream, I’d fight away all of your fears
I’ve held your hand through all of these years
And you still have all of me

Arwen and Aragorn were engaged. This they decided after meeting unexpectedly in Lorien one glorious day. However, Lord Elrond was adamant:Arwen would live as an elf so long as her father was in Middle Earth, and she would settle for none less than king of Gondor and Arnor. And Arwen could only wait. She would wait for her beloved to claim the throne, and wait for her father to sail the sea. Aragorn dominated Arwen’s thoughts in his absence. She wondered often if he thought of her. Pain laced these sweet fantasies- if she was to wed the man she loved, she would have to give up her immortality. She would leave her father and brothers behind. Her father, who gave his unconditional love and tender care to his youngest child. Her dear brothers, always protective, even if they were sometimes mean to their baby sister. She didn’t think she could bear being parted from them. And of Celebrian- she would never see her mother again. The whole family had missed her when she sailed, and the thought of never hearing her mother’s voice again sent a jab of pain through Arwen’s heart. But would she give up her family, friends, all those dear to her, for Aragorn? Yes, she decided. She would.

You used to captivate me by your resonating light
Now I’m bound by the life you left behind
Your face that haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice that chased away all of the sanity in me
These wounds won’t seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There’s just too much that time cannot erase
When you cried I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream, I’d fight away all of your fears
I held your hand through all of these years
And you still have all of me

Arwen had given up her immortality. Her father had sailed, her passage west had been given to Frodo Baggins, and she was Queen of Gondor. She and her beloved had had several beautiful children. But her beloved had died. She had been there- she was by his side when he passed. Her tears had slipped off her porcelain cheeks, down onto the king’s hand. She had leaned over to press one last kiss to his cold lips. And now she was leaving for Lorien, her life empty with him gone.

I’ve tried so hard to tell myself that you’re gone
But though you’re still with me, I’ve been alone all along

Arwen lay herself down upon Cerin Amroth, bittersweet memories of Aragorn haunting her. She remembered when they had vowed to be wed upon this very hill. She raised her weary eyes to the stars. The last thing she saw was the light of Earendil, her grandfather, burning brightly.
“Farewell,” she murmured softly, the mellryn swaying gently, soothingly overhead. Her heavy eyelids slid over her grey eyes. Her dark eyelashes rested against her cheeks, now colorless. And Arwen Undomiel was at last at rest.

When you cried I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream I’d fight away all of your fears
I held your hand through all of these years
And you still have all of me.
