I saw her dance in sunlight,
I saw her dance in rain,
I saw her dance in moonlight
And I hoped we’d meet again.

Her hair was like to shadow,
Her eyes were clearest grey,
Her skin like snow on mountains
And her smile like light of day.

The fairest child of Elvenkind,
I loved her from the start,
To be with her was sorrow sweet
As like to break a beating heart.

For woe, she did not see me,
My fortune was unkind,
I’m but a lowly minstrel
And she a princess of her kind!

He came for her, that star on earth,
He took her far away,
That day my heart stopped beating
And my world turned cold and grey.

Alas, alas, she is no more,
She whose beauty no bard can tell,
My heart shall grieve eternally
For fair Tinúviel!
