The wind blows cold, the rain comes down,
The path is mud from farm to town,
But what do I care for these things,
My spirit is glad and as I walk I sing:

Farms and towns and mountains high,
Green grass under a summer sky,
The river flows and on the road goes,
And as I look ahead what do I see?
The world laid out in front of me.

The sun is warm, the sky is blue,
The woods are green and my path is true,
What do I care for all things bad,
My step is light and my heart is glad.

Farms and towns and mountains high,
Green grass under a summer sky,
The river flows and on the road goes,
And as I look ahead what do I see?
The world laid out in front of me.

The moon is clear, the stars are bright,
They light my way as I walk this night,
Troubles can wait ‘til light of day,
The night is young and as I walk I say:

Farms and towns and mountains high,
Green grass under a summer sky,
The river flows and on the road goes,
And as I look ahead what do I see?
The world laid out in front of me.

But the time must come when my journey ends,
Food and drink are merry friends,
My feet are weary of the path,
So I sing as we gather round the hearth:

Farms, towns, green grass, mountains high,
Another day I’ll come, now I pass you by,
The river flows and on the road goes,
And as I look ahead what do I see?
Food and drink and rest for me!
