Silafiligod
By Firniswin

The trees swayed in the fall breeze as Silafiligod walked quickly and quietly through the trees. Her thought all on one thing. “The dragon must be slain.” She thought to herself as she jumped a log that was in her way.
Her people had been slain by that evil beast Naurcarch the dragon, and now she was all alone. Burns on her face hands and feet, a cut in her leg made it hard to walk, but she endured the pain. Her eyes fixed on one mountain, Mount caraonain. The beast had flown there after her meal of plenty. Silafiligod scowled at the mountain she wanted nothing more than sweet revenge. The wind blew though her golden hair as she walked on fearless and determined.
She tripped and fell into the mud then she tried to get up but as she was doing so she hit her head hard on a low branch of a tree. She fell to the ground and was instantly unconscious.
She opened her eyes to see she was in some sort of bed. But more like just a blanket and pillow and she was near a roaring fire. It was night out, the moon’s beams of light reflected off the pond behind the reeds. There were men sleeping on the ground with blankets and pillows and while some were snoring others were coughing or
Some were just quiet. She felt as if her head was swimming, she tried to be quiet but then cried out in pain as something cold slimy and stinging touched her leg.
Suddenly a hand covered her mouth and she squirmed to be free of the hand. “Let me go.” The hand muffled her voice.
She felt something constricting around her leg. “What are you doing?” She said muffled as she tried desperately to move the hand.
“Shhhh! Do you want to wake the whole world up?” asked a man whose face was suddenly right in front of her. “No! But I want you to let me go.” She sighed. The man put his hand took his hand from her mouth. He poured more of the stinging potion on another wound. She screeched but it was muffled.
She bit the man’s hand. “Yow!” He pulled his hand back from her mouth. She spat profusely, and then tried to run a hand stopped not short that was tightly holding her hand. She fell back quickly on the ground. “Ohhh.” she groaned. “You shouldn’t have done that.” he said picking her up and laying her back in the bed. “I am a friend. I found you in the forest and have been tending you ever since.” He said looking down.
Suddenly his eyes seemed to sparkle in the moonlight. He seemed handsome and kind. She had not meant to bite his hand. She looked down sheepishly. She felt awful for what had happened. “Now what is your name?” He said smiling handing her a water skin. “First what is your?” she demanded. “My name is Captain Halanire, I was sent to scout the area with my men.” He said pointing towards the men. “Well, My name is Silafiligod.” She said before she drank some of the water. “What a beautiful name.” He said looking at her. “Yours is quite nice also.” she said handing the water skin back to him.
“Well I must get some sleep, I have out medicine on your open wounds and your burns. I am sorry it stung.” He said putting her golden hair back behind her pointed ears. “Good night.” She said as she turned over in the blankets and went to sleep.
Rays of sunlight shone over the desolate hills, the sun had not risen yet but it was not far off. Silafiligod yawned and stretched. Opening her eyes she saw men surrounded her. “She is waken up.” said one. “I can see that stupid.” said another. Halanire ran over to the group of men. “Leave her alone.” He yelled at the men and shooed them away. The men went back to their jobs picking up blankets and pillows and making sure the fire was totally out.
The Captain helped her up his eyes happy. “How are you feeling?” he asked looking at her carefully. “Much better thank you!” she said rubbing her head.
The two went off to walk trough the woods. The trees swayed and the light splashed color into the forest. They walked on deep into the forest then both sat down.
“Who are you?” asked the captain. “I told you. I am Silafiligod.” She said surprised. “I mean where do you come from?” He asked looking into her beautiful green eyes. “I am from Loth Lorien. But I was going on a journey to visit my mother.”
She said he eyes filling with tears. “That beast killed all that were with me. It was about to kill me when one of the elf soldiers that were with us shot the dragon. She threw me and went over to the one who had shot her.” tears were already flowing down her soft cheeks. “I ran, after the dragon to kill her. And then I hit my head.”
She said wiping her eyes. “We as you know cannot bring you back to the golden wood. But we came bring you to Mirkwood.” He said hugging her. “Mirkwood is gone.”
She said burying her head deeper into his shoulder. “I am sorry.” He said holding her head gently. “I saw it all go up in flames. I saw the foul beast trap my mother and brother inside a circle of flame.” She stood up away from the captain. “Please let me go. Let me have weapons and food so I may go and defeat this creature.” She said folding her arms. “I do not think it wise my lady. Let me send one of my men to defeat the foul creature.” He said standing up and then sitting down “No! This is my quest.” she declared. “I declare I will rid Middle Earth of this beast.” She turned to walk back to the camp. “Fine my lady. But I ask one thing.” Halanire asked as he stood up. “What might that be?” She said smiling. “Do you have a shorter name I may call you?” He asked smiling. “Call me Sila the warrior.” “Then Sila I will see that you get food and weapons.” the captain said walking hurriedly back to the camp.
She dressed herself in the proper attire and grabbed a sack of food and a quiver full of arrows and a bow. Then a sword that she found much to her delight, she sheathed the weapon and put on a helmet. Then grabbing her water skin she said goodbye to all and dashed off into the trees quickly getting closer and closer to the lair of Naurcarch.

The captain wished that she had left. He loved her more than he knew at the time. His soldiers noticed his behavior had changed since she had left. He did not eat and rarely slept. He was always humming songs that were not known to them.
Two days after she had left one of the soldiers confronted him. “Sir, are you sick you haven’t eaten or slept in two days.” The soldier saluted and knelt down at his side. “No. I am fine.” he said sadly. “Sir, go after her.” the soldier knew now what was bothering the Captain. “Why?” Halanire asked as he threw a knife into a near bye tree just missing the head of another soldier. “Go help her.” The soldier begged.
“That is a grand idea except for that fact that she did not ask for my help.” The General stood up indignantly. “Because she did not want you to get hurt.” said the annoyed soldier. “When did she say that?” He said in disbelief. “Right before she left.” The soldier pointed to an already saddled brown chestnut stallion. “Thank you my men.” The captain said patting the soldier on the back. “I leave Garoline in charge, he is captain. “Please be careful captain.” Garoline said patting the horse on it’s strong neck. “I will.” He said right before he dashed off into the sunset to find Silafiligod.
Sila listened carefully her green eyes intense and watching the trees that were in front of her. The light danced on her golden hair as she moved steadily forward into the dark forest, her feet made no sound and her breathing calm.
Shapes moved above her dark and menacing in the orange trees. The cold fall breeze bit at her cheeks.
Crack! A branch snapped, she turned quickly on her heel and saw nothing. She went forward again, but as she went a Crack came again behind her. She moved her head slowly to look over her shoulder to see something rise into the trees. She leapt forward eyes on the road ahead running quickly to find a place of safety. She saw things running in the treetops after her.
She finally noticed that her legs were moving but she was not getting anywhere. Something sticky was all over her body keeping her from sprinting away.
Her body went limp and her senses failed. She fell asleep quickly and was at the giant spiders mercy.
The horse ran swiftly forward at Captain Halanire’s command. “Whoa!” He pulled back on the reigns. The horse jolted to a stop, it’s eyes wide with surprise. The Captain climbed off the horse and went down closely to the ground. He looked carefully at the tracks. They lead north but beside them were drops of sticky white substances. He climbed back on the horse and kicked sharply. It went forward quickly as they road closer and closer to the trap that Sila had been caught in.
She finally came back to her senses to find her hands were tied and so were her ankles. She was stuck to an ancient wall. She squirmed and tried hard to get free but found the binds not as fragile as they appeared. They looked like string that spiders used to make webs. She bit at the foul string but found it bitter. She stopped voices came from the other side of the wall.
“Can we eat her yet?” Said a winey voice. “I caught her! She is my dinner!” another voice screeched. A minute later two spider like creatures came over the other side of the wall. “She is a skinny little thing.” said one laughing. “Oh she will do.” said the other who looked hungry. “I am not going to be anyone’s dinner you pathetic worthless slime.” She bit one of their legs then spat. “Ow!” one of them fell off the wall. Then she pulled as hard as she could to get free of the binds. She freed her legs and with them kicked the one she had bitten. Then she got her hands free and grabbed a nearby rusted knife and stabbed mercilessly at the other who still clung to the wall.
It let out a cry of pain and fell off the wall the knife still stuck in it’s back. She let out a sigh of exertion then spent no time in the horrid place. She staggered to her weapons, which lie, on the ground near a beach tree. She picked them up. “Ohhh!” She groaned. She staggered slowly through the bushes her eyes half shut.
Finally when she felt better she sat down to eat something. She looked up to see
Two trees leaning into one another. They were scorched black and something was carved on them, it was elvish “Gwanath an pan I minna si.” She read slowly frowning at the words.
“Death to all who enter her.” She said in a toneless voice.
“No! You do not scare me Naurcarch! I will find you and you will pay for what you have done.” She yelled out in rage.
She picked up the bag and walked quickly and undaunted through the woods, not looking up nor down but straight ahead. She was not scared of what was to come, determination blocked her fears.
She kept walking for many days not stopping to sleep only to eat a frugal meal then get up and walk some more.
A few days later she came to a large mountain. No path could she find only a dangerous climb up to what seemed to be a front door. Another inscription was on the mountainside, but this time it was not in elvish. She read quickly, ”

Climb if you dare,
I am there.
At the top,
Don’t drop.
Fearless is the man,
Who proves that he can,
Slay the dragon Naurcarch.
“I am fearless.” She said as she dropped all but her weapons to the ground and placed her foot in a rock hold. She than ascended, climbing ever higher and higher.
She was halfway up when she lost her footing and slipped her hand the only thing keeping hr from falling to the far away ground. She let out a forceful sigh and tried hard to find a rock that her foot could slide into. She found one and slipped her foot in the hole.
Below at the foot of the mountain Halanire came riding quickly on his horse he looked up. He saw her climbing and jumped off the horse. He grabbed a rope from his pack and slung it around his arm. He did the same as she had and started to climb.
He went faster and faster, he was almost halfway when he saw she had reached the top. He went faster the wind blowing his long blonde hair.
Silafiligod was already in the lair, she listened to hear snoring coming from down a tunnel. She went slowly; just to be safe she knocked an arrow in her bow and aimed forward as she went steadily on.
Finally a outlined shape of a dragon came to her eyes. As she looked she saw it was bigger than she had thought, but it made no difference to her as long as it was killed.
She walked closer and closer to the sleeping form, it’s snores echoed in the cave and it mad it sound as if there were more than one dragon in the cave.
Without warning a huge paw moved it’s way along the cave floor toward were Sila stood. The paw pushed her over against the wall and she was pinned. She struggled to get free as she still clutched the bow and the arrow was still knocked in the bow. The dragon came closer to her prey, her red eyes shone viciously. “Did you not heed the writing?”” She said hissing. “I fear nothing and no one!” Sila said as she tried to bite the dragon on the finger. “Oh ouch.” said the dragon in mockery at Sila.
“You are that elven girl I almost ate, though the warrior was better.” The dragon licked her lips. “But now I will finish you.”
The dragon’s tongue wrapped around Sila, constricting her around her middle.
Sila grabbed for her sword and with a swipe of it cut off the tongue. She dropped to the floor. She regained her breath then swung at the belly of the dragon, which was unprotected. The dragon cried out in pain as blood spilled from her cut.
The dragon breathed in then with a large wind, flames of yellow, red, and blue came out of her mouth and nostrils.
Fire caught to the hay and tree bark on the cave floor. Sila stepped in one of the fires. She fell to the ground in pain her sword was to far a reach from her. Again the dragon pinned her and was pointing a long talon on her neck. Sila did not move knowing any false one would bring her life to an end. She gulped hard, her eyes fierce and bright. She smirked then with a quick move she picked up a rusted sword that lie near by and she slashed at Naurcarch’s finger. The dragon yowled in pain as Silafiligod ran to her bow and knocked a quick arrow. She aimed then shot for the dragon’s heart. As the arrow sliced through the air towards the dragon, Naurcarch leapt for Sila. The arrow hit the dragon straight in the heart and as Naurcarch’s body went limp she kept sliding towards the cave entrance were Sila was running. The dragon rammed into her and she fell over the edge. The dragon fell out of the entry onto the ground, Naurcarch was dead.
Halanire clung onto Sila’s limp body, and with much difficulty climbed to the ledge. Her pulled her up and laid her on the ledge carefully tears in his eyes. He hugged her gently in his arms. “Silafiligod! Sila!” He cried his tears resting on her face. “You have won.” He moved his hands slowly through her golden locks.
At that moment her eyes opened. “What are you doing her?” She asked him sitting up. “I love you.” He said as he kissed her ashy cheek. “Sila you were triumphant. You beat the dragon.” He said helping her up to see the dragon’s motionless body.
“I did it.” she said to herself.
Halanire turned her gaze upon him as he got down on one knee. “I find you the bravest woman I have ever met will you marry me?” He said bowing his head and kissing her hand. “Sir, I hardly know you. And you are human.” She said with a sigh. “But I do love you.” She said looking to the sky as if for answers. “My lady, how do you know I am mortal?” He said looking at her with eyes that seemed somehow to smile. “I assumed.” She said smiling. “I am immortal as you are.” He pulled back his long blonde hair to reveal his ears and he showed her his elven pendant. “I am the prince of Mirkwood, Thranduil.” He said hugging her happily. “Please will you marry me?” He asked innocently. “Oh of course.” She said kissing his cheek.
They rode back to the camp on his horse and told the soldiers of their adventure and of the wonderful news.
They married in Loth Lorien and after they went and settled down in Mirkwood.
Silafiligod became the protector of Mirkwood for a time then she went back and to her husband and stayed there with him. They had a son they named him Legolas, which meant Greenleaf. After the birth of their son Legolas, Silafiligod went back to her duties as protector of Mirkwood. She was later named Sila the Warrior.
Sadly she was forgotten like many other stories of Middle Earth.

Authors note:
Most of the things in this story were mad e up by me. I did use J.R.R. Tolkien’s places and a couple people, and I am sorry if there is really a story about Thranduil’s wife but I have never heard of one so I made my own. Hope you enjoyed!
