I am the Ring Bearer
Not many my days
But long has it been
And my mind slowly strays

Since that fateful hour
When I was born
And was given to me
A Ring to be worn

A Ring of great power
And darkness within
The Ring of the devil
The One Ring of Sin

My father, my mother
Both wore this ring
And at first when I saw
It was no great thing

The ring played small tricks
And shone in the light
And I loved all things
That looked shiny and bright

Yes it called out to me
And I could not linger
But I put on the ring
Which fit right to my finger

Ah, I knew what it was
Though only a child
But the burden no longer
Seems quite so mild

It is precious to me
And hangs close to my heart
“My own, my precious”
Has been there from the start

And yet, though it’s dear
I must journey on
Till I find that one place
That my burden be gone

For I hear in the night
And I see by the day
The wraiths of the devil
Are riding my way

They can smell my sin
Drawn to this Ring’s power
And I live on the run
Never resting an hour

And the closer I come
To the place that I seek
The harder it pulls
And I’m so very weak

Then I heard a voice
Saying, “You have my sword”
T’was the words of no ranger
But those of my Lord

He fought by my side
Till I came to that place
And I knelt on my knees
And covered my face

And the Lord took my hand
And he took off the Ring
Though it hurt for a moment
Great peace did it bring

He threw it to fire
And forgot my old ways
I lived “Happily ever after
Till the end of my days.”
