“Ada?” Legolas shifted from foot to foot as he stood in the doorway to his father’s study and bit his lower lip.

Thranduil looked up from the letter he was writing. “Legolas, my son, come in. There is no need for you to stand in the doorway.”

As the twenty-year-old elfling neared his father’s desk, he noticed parchment scattered across the desk and a quill lying near his father’s hand. It was as he had feared, his father had been busy. “I’m sorry, Ada. I did not mean to interrupt your work…” He trailed off, unsure of what to say.

“My son, you are never an interruption. I could do with a break from my work anyway.” Thranduil laughed. “Come now, Legolas. Tell me, why did you seek me out?”

Beaming, Legolas quickly climbed onto his father’s lap. Making himself comfortable, Legolas replied, “I simply wish to spend time with you. Maybe we could take a walk in the garden with Nana.”

Thranduil kissed his son’s forehead. “Of course, my son. Let us go and find her now.”

Legolas frowned. “Do you not have work to finish?”

Hugging his son to him, Thranduil replied, “My work can wait. Right now, I have a son who needs me. Everything else can wait.”

Laughing in glee, Legolas quickly slid off his father’s lap and raced to find his Mother. As he raced off, Legolas called over his shoulder, “Come on, Ada!”

Thranduil shook his head and smiled at his son’s retreating back as he stood to follow his beloved son. Ah, the joys of fatherhood!
