The Long Night By Fingolfin~of~Beleriand

Long was the battle,
Between Morgoth and Fingolfin,
With sword and shield rattle,
Neither knew who would win,
But fight on they did,
Long into the dreary night,
Of which many stars were hid,
During the time of this fight.

Seven times was Morgoth wounded,
Yet that did not stop him,
For he was determined,
To bring down the Elven grim,
That fought on to his front,
Who would not run,
But fought on instead of making a hunt,
And giving Morgoth fun.

At last Morgoth gained the upper hand,
And strove to slay the Elven Lord,
But long still did the two create band after band,
Of destroyed earth of which is spoken no word,
And finally Morgoth brought down the Elf,
And he brake the lord’s body,
Whose story now sits on the shelf,
And is remembered as a small part of the body,
Of all the Elven lore,
Which lives on,
Through all the Elven more,
And it is passed from father to son.
