1. Make sure the story has not already been posted (sometimes this will entail you looking over the older postings in the News Archive).

2. Spelling and grammar — please double-check for accuracy. News Admins reserve the right to reject your story if they have to spend a lot of time cleaning up grammatical errors.

3. As this is a Lord of the Rings website, the story must be LOTR-related. This means that CoE does not post news about an actor or crew member’s other projects. For example, if Orlando Bloom is cast in another film (ie: Pirates of the Carribean), CoE will not accept stories about it. (One of the exceptions to this would be a link to an interview where the actor/crew member answers questions about The Lord of the Rings.) If it isn’t specific to the film or the books (and personal feelings towards them are excluded, ie: “I love the books and Legolas is hot, I just wanted ya’ll to know!”), it shouldn’t be submitted.

4. Copyright issues are very important at CoE. We can’t and don’t post the entire story verbatim, but instead provide a link, so that our members can go and read for themselves. You can post a bit of the story – just a bit – to help give it interest or help with the description, a few sentences (which you have hopefully paraphrased, if possible).

5. We must have a link so the story is not construed as being rumor. We do all we can not to link to other LOTR sites, but instead follow the link home to where it originated. Submissions with stories linking directly to another LotR fansite will most likely be rejected.

6) If the story you are submitting contains a spoiler, be sure to put a spoiler warning in the intro.
