Post "All those who wander are not lost," Translation

I've been looking for the phrase "All those who wander are not lost," in Quenya for quite a long time now! I was wondering if anyone could help me with it? Or perhaps be able to post some kind of tengwar script picture of it? (I was planning on getting it as a tattoo). Thanks so much!

Ilyar i ranyar umir rúcina

I used an alternate word for "lost" because the normal Quenya word (vanya) IMO doesn't quite carry the right meaning.

I'll do the tengwar later if someone else doesn't.

It roughly means "All who wander are not disoriented". It's not a word for word translation, like most others, but should get the meaning across.

My tengwar isn't perfect, but using Dan Smith's encoding it should be something like `Bj´#6 `B 7E5Ì#6 `Mt%6 7~MzT5#

As I've looked around I've also found many different translations for this:

Lá vanwa i ranya ilquen
Lá ilyë i ranyar nar vanwë <--- I've found that one to be more correct than the former, but what the heck do I know, lol. I just thought I would post them. I'm sort of curious as to what the difference is between them.

Almost any sentance can be translated in more than one way.

Lá vanwa i ranya ilquen is hard to translate. I think the author intended it to mean "not lost [are] [all] the wandering people". I really wouldn't recommend this one at all.

Lá ilyë i ranyar nar vanwë, on the other hand, is much easier. It is a word for word translation and means "Not all who wander are lost". I personally don't like this one as it is IMO too close to the English wording. The final decision is, however, up to you.

As far as I know, the picture you posted above is correct. You had best get everything checked by someone else in this forum (just incase) before you continue.

Lambengolmo, don't you think "rúcina" needs to be pluralised?

I'm a bit partial to the literal translation, "lá ilyë i ranyar...", though it of course is a matter of personal taste.

Nerina, these translations are from the Ardalambion wordlists and might help you choose between the suggested words for "lost":

vanwa "gone, lost, no longer to be had, vanished, departed, dead, past, past and over, gone on the road, over"

rúcina "confused, shattered, disordered, ruined"

True. rúcinë (I did say "just incase" )
