This was 'collected' last year (they aren't all 'mine' I think!), and I just found them by 'accident'. Nonetheless, they're too good not to share!!


New Years Resolutions:

Idhrinn ‘Wain Theled: (New Years Resolves/Intentions)


Lose weight
- awarthathon aes (I will forsake food)

Exercise
- mudathon (I will labor)

Read a book
- Glinnathon barf (I will glance at a book)

Watch less TV
- ú-dirithon nern-gelaid (I will not watch light-tales)

Make a new friend
- hirithon vellon ‘wain (I will find a new friend) *hir- ‘Neo-Sindarin’ ‘to find (without looking)

Write a letter
- teithathon hiniath (I will write tidings)

Grow a garden
- redhithon hant (I will sow a garden)

Learn a new language
- iuithathon lam ‘wain (I will use/employ a new tongue)

Well... there were two others, I'd thought of...

Stop smoking
- Ú-iuithathon `alenas (I will not use pipe-weed)

Quit drinking
- Ú-hogathon gerdyf vethennin (I will not drink trampled apples -i.e. `wine')
- Though... I remember a past Elfling message somewhere that proposed *gwin as 'wine', I think.

EDIT: It 'ought' to probably be 'theled', I think, since there's no solid evidence (going out on a limb here, lol!) that gerunds are pluralized in Sindarin.

lol... thanks, though I don't drink or smoke.

lol... it would be fun to come up with some LOTR themed resolutions. lol.

Example being Pippen saying he won't smoke as much Pipe-weed.


Just a thought.

I have another proposal for 'wine'. The Valarin word for 'wine' was mirubhôzê-, which passed into Quenya as miruvóre, which is translated as 'mead' in Namárië. We have the Sindarin word miruvor attested, which is obviously a cognate. It might not exactly correspond to the Quenya word, but it was possibly an intoxicating drink of some sort. I don't think I'd use 'trampled apples' in this sentence unless I was giving up applesauce or cider.
