Post The calm before the storm - open for all

OOC: I am Merry and arwen_the_evenstar is Eowyn, all else are open. Set during the War of the ring.

BIC: Merry wearily stumbled through the feilds of Pellenor. His head was slightly bent and his shoulder were dropped. Horror was on his dirty, sweaty face. Blood and mud was splattered on his clothes and matted his honey colored curly locks. He shook ever so slightly from shock and fear. In his leather gloved hand, he grasped his black blood stained sword. It had been a long, rainy night full of fighting that had just gone into a lull. That was bad, Merry concluded as he paused and looked around. He had, somehow, lost sight of Eowyn during the battle. Merry felt bad about that, because he had made a promise to her to stick with her.

Merry glanced around and shuddered. There were so many corpses. It just wasn't right. He shook his head and started wandering again around the battle field.

Pippin stood staring out upon the vast expanse of Pelennor. The fields had been so green and alive not long before this, but now they were stained with the blood of men and orcs. Pippin had felt utterly useless since the battle had begun. There were men dying to save the people of Middle-Earth, and he had done little to help them. He wasn't a brave warrior like some were, in fact he was scared out of his wits. He would gladly run and hide if it weren't for a small part of him nagging that that would be wrong.

The doors of the Citadel swung open. Denethor, being followed by a set of guards bearing Faramir. Pippin looked on in shock. Faramir wasn't dead! Pippin had told Denethor as much.

'What do I do?' Pippin asked himself. He knew the answer, and without a second thought, he followed them.

(( Gothmog's character is in the database.) )

Gothmog man of Gondor rode through a mailstorm of battle, everything here was death or life. There was no middle ground, no place of safety on the Pelannor this day. You either killed or were killed. Gothmog swept his spear left and managed to slay an orc that seemed to be looking at something moving in the shadows. Gothmog's eyes swept over the area and found out what. There was a child on the battlefield!! He stood perhaps three feet off the ground and bore in his hands a small sword stained black with orc blood. Gothmog rained in his horse and turned back towards the figure, slaying two more orcs as he rode.

OOC: Sorry for the delay. When exactly in the battle is this? Before the Witch King comes? I assume so..

BIC:

Eowyn glanced around frantically for Merry. She had told him she would look after him no matter what happened but now she was worried, she couldn't see him anywhere and as she looked about now she noticed lots of bodies, strewn all about. "Merry!" She shouted loudly, forgetting to speak with a low tone which was necessary in her disguise as Dernhelm. She paused for a second and then drew her sword quickly and spun round to face a group of orcs who were lumbering towards her. She hacked and slashed at them with a yell until 4 of them were dead at her feet. She saw one orc rush towards her and when she looked up she realised he must be some sort of commander or leader. She ran out to meet him, screaming in anger as their blades met.

The young hobbit warrior turned when he someone started towards him at a fast pace. He grasped his sword tightly, ready to protect himself. The hobbit held his breath, but let it out when he saw that it was on his side. He loostened his grip ever so slightly because of this. Merry slowly trudged towards the man upon the horse. The young man was too tired to go any faster. Sleep had not been had for nearly two days (a good sleep he had not had in all most a year) and he had fought for so long and so hard that his body protested. Merry ignored the protests though.

He was stopped though. An orc jumped in front of him. Merry reeled back, but did not fall or run. Instead, he went into fight mode. Merry tightened his grasp on the sword and swung. It hit the orc in the side. Meryr pulled the sword out. Before the evil creature could react Merry shoved his short sword into the stomach of the orc and then pulled out. The orc fell back, dead. Merry looked at his sword and a slight frown came over him. He did not like all of this. Merry for a half of a moment wanted to be home. However, this thought dissapeard when he thought of all of the good he was doing and that he was helping rid the world of evil. Next, his mind went to his cousin. Oh, how he missed him. He could not leave. At least not now. Merry would go home with Pippin. If he did not ever find his cousin...Merry did not finish that thought. He would find his cousin again.

Merry heard a familiar cry. He looked up and around. "Eowyn?" he whispered, rushing faster then he thought he was able to the maiden. His eyes widen at the size of the huge beast in front of him. Never before had he ever seen an orc this size. With a battle cry, he ran forward. "Caela ie'lle!" he cried out. Frodo had taught him some elven when he was younger. Why he knew a battle cry, Merry did not know, but that did not matter.

Merry slashed at the orc...

OOC: I can't quite remember that bit in the movie so...I made it up. Btw Stella- is CoNFuSeD_Elessar joining this rpg? just wondering...

BIC:

Eowyn screamed in anger as the leader drew their blades closer together, his face snarling a few inches away from hers. She could even smell his vile, putrid breath against her flushed face. As they paused for a moment, steel clashing against steel, the Shieldmaiden thought she heard a cry from not too far away. "Caela ie'lle!" It sounded like Merry though the words he spoke sounded of Sindarin tongue or perhaps Quenya... but she didn't have time to ponder this because the orc grabbed her roughly and was about to plunge the blade into her when she delivered a strong, powerful punch right into the orc's face. It backed off slightly and glared at her before spitting out the blood.

The woman glanced up towards the sky just in time to see a large shadow cover the clouds. Just seconds after that followed the shrill, blood curdling cry of a Fell Beast, and that could only mean: Nazgul... The lust for battle was charged up inside her and she conveyed all that energy into fighting but now it was a moment where for just a mere few seconds, she felt dread and fear... they could not win this battle... "Though we shall fight none the less..." She said quietly to herself, remembering her uncle's words before they charged to Gondor's aid. She spun round as she heard the Nazgul once more. She saw the Beat pick up some large creature and fling it back onto the ground. She watched in horror at this show of murder. Then she looked carefully and saw in fact, that it was, her uncle!!

Froze in horror, Eowyn stood, mouth wide in shock at what had happened. She watched as Theoden was underneath his horse, which was crushing him. "Feast on his flesh..." Came the hoarse voice of the Witch King of Angmar. She snapped out of her shock and burst into action, just as the Fell Beast was slowly advancing towards her uncle. She stopped in front of the fallen horse and his rider. "I will kill you if you touch him!" She threatened, feeling rather small compared to the huge, ferocious creature which rose up in front of her. "Do not come between a Nazgul and his prey..." said the voice, warningly. She still stood her ground... Her heart thumped wildly in her chest. Pound! Pound! Pound! It thrashed against her rib cage. The Fell Beast reared up slightly and went to attack her. She yelled a cry and brought her sword up and hacked at it's head. Once! Twice! And on the third it snapped off. Blood pouring out and the beast thrashed and flailed madly. The severed head lay limp and still on the blood stained grass.

The maiden saw the look of anger on the Witch King's face as he rose from the ground, his beast successfully killed. She whimpered slightly and grabbed a shield from a fallen body nearby. Eowyn knew this was it, this was one of the biggest fights of her life...this time it was real...so shockingly real...

Merry stood there. He was transfixed with everything that was going on. He had seen the smaller orcs fighting, but never before had he sen something so large fight. The smaller orcs were fairly good at fighting, but this one, he was good. It was fast and spry, but he seemed stupid. That combination was not good.

Merry had been only away of the two fighters, at least for that time, but a new sound entered his ears and bought him into the rest of the world. Hastily, the hobbit man shook his curly haired head and ran towards the sound. "Caela ie`lla!" he cried again as he ran as quickly and hastily as his legs would take him.

Merriadoc skidded to a halt when Merry felt something overhead. He heard it as well. Slowly, Merry looked up. His breath cought in his throat at what he saw. It wasthe largest creatur he had ever seen, though the beast did not scare him. What was riding it scared him. Merry thought all the black riders had perished, but here one was and the king of them to boot.

The fell beast wailed. Merry dropped his sword involuntarily and clasped his hands over his ears. The sword clattered loudly to the ground and with no haste did the hobbit wait to grab it up.

Merry wanted to fight or run - he did not know which. He could not do anything at all at that moment as Merry peered into the dusk. The hobbit screamed in horror. The fell beast ate the horse - throwing its rider. The screa became louder when Merry realized who the rider was.

"Theoden!" he screamed, running to the fallen leader. He was frozen as Eowyn killed the fell beast. Merry swalloed hard. We a last cry of, "Caela ie`lle," he rushed forward with his sword tightly in hand. He brandished the sword.

It connected with something. Slowly, Merry looked up. His brown eyes were with with friight and pain. He licked his lips and his heart beat hard and fast. Merry had stuck the Witch Kings stomach. Merrys' blade was stuck in the center of the king. Merry let go og the blade and staggered back. he collasted onto te ground on his hands and knees. He croud out. It was the worst pain he had ever felt. He waswo dold and was turning so very pale. Merry stood, unsure of what he was doing. He staggered away as fast as he could.

When Merry could go no longer, he fell onto the ground on his side. The last thing he remembered was a strange creature falling onto him, though he did not care. With a whimper and the crying out of Pippin, he fell into darkness.

Pippin paced outside the Houses of Healing where Faramir now resided. He wondered what would have happened if he and Gandalf had arrived a moment later then they had. Because of Denethor's refusal to listen to him, Pippin had to search for Gandalf amid the fighting soldiers. They had gotten to Denethor just in time to save Faramir, but they could not save Denethor from his own madness.

Now Pippin was back in the position he had begun in. He was again feeling utterly useless and completely terrified. Worries about the others rolled around in his mind.

What would happen to Frodo and Sam? Would they succeed in destroying the Ring or would the Dark Lord reclaim it? Was Merry safe in Rohan or had he ridden with those fighting and dying on the fields of Pelennor?

Some part of Pippin knew that everything would work out in the end. It was just a matter of time and hope. He would keep hope and would help the course of events as best he could until it all did.

(( If at all possible could I be Gandalf....? Tell if I can't be him, but right now I'll post))

Gandalf mounted Shadowfax and raced down the white cobblestone streets to the gate leading into the 2nd level of Minas Tirith. He couldn't believe the treachery of Denethor's actions against his son... Shaking his head as to get the tjoughs out of his mind Gandalf finally arrived at the gate. He dismounted Shadowfax and drew his sword, Glamdring. Next, he continued to pace back and forth in front of the gate.

Bang Bang Bangthe Orcs knocked and everytime they knocked the door buckled and almost swung open. It would have if it wasn't for the soldiers that were there to restrain the gate. Gandalf glanced at the surrounding men.

"You are men of Gondor...Whatever that may happen you shall stand and face it! Do not fear the enemy that stands before you for they few you as well!!!" he said rallying the men to him. They would need to be ready to face the onslaught if the orcs ever got through the door.

Pippin followed Gandalf through the crowded streets of Minas Tirith. They were filled with soldiers who had come from the fields of Pelennor. The Houses of Healing were full and the healers were run ragged with all the wounded soldiers.

As Pippin and Gandalf exited onto the fields, Pippin felt bile rise into his throat. The stench of the bodies was overwhelming. There were so many. So many fathers, brothers and sons would not be returning to their homes. He walked with Gandalf for awhile, and then began to wander aimlessly around the battlefield. He looked ahead of his feet. He could see something, but he wasn't quite sure what. He squinted, and then ran over to it. He picked it up. It was Merry's cloak! Pippin searched the area frantically. If Merry was there, he would find him. Pippin stepped closer to a fallen oliphaunt, and as he did so he saw someone twitch underneath the body of a dead orc. Pioppin push the orc off the person. It was Merry!

"Merry!" Pippin exclaimed. Merry was injured, but Pippin would take care of him. He had to, he just had to.

OOC: yeah, you may be Gandalf. Welcome to the rp.

BIC: Darkness surrounded him - even in his mind. It was espicially in his mind that the dark was. It tormented him greatly and sucked all of the energy and will out of the hobbit. He could actually feel the darkness that surrounded him. It pulled at his body and his head, trying to take it.

However, there was light at the end of the darkness. It had not been there a moment ago. The light called his name! The voice was familiar, but he could not quite place it.

Slowly, the maimed hobbit opened his eyes. A weary smile spread over his ashen face. His skin was taut. The hobbit looked all most as dead as the corpses did. His usually bright, vibrant brown eyes were clouded and shimmered strangely and they were blood shot. There was a deep gash on his forehead and dried blood spilled down his pale cheek and matted his hair. "Pip..." he choked out, "I knew you'd find me." Merry coughed and graped withhis left hand, Pippins leg. He cried out in pain and even a few tears trickled down his face. "Don't leave me, Pip," He begged.

Eowyn watched as Merry charged forward bravely and stuck the blade in the Witch King's stomach. She heard the sound as the blade hit flesh and then she watched as the hobbit collapsed from the blinding pain of connecting with such evil. She raised her sword ready and grabbed one of the shields from a fallen soldier of Rohan nearby. The Witch King snarled and stepped forward, coming towards her and that is when she spotted the huge mace her carried. Her eyes widened in fright, no one could survive a blow from that weapon, it looked so powerful and so strong. The Ringwraith heaved the mace and swung it round towards her.

The shieldmaiden ducked and then dodged the almighty weapon as he launched it towards her. As he spun it around she ducked, crouching down low so as to avoid the blow, and then she stood up again. That was a mistake. The mace connected with her shield and she watched in shock as it shattered into lots of pieces. The Witch King of Angmar snarled and threw the weapon towards her. It hit with a sickening crunch and she gasped from the pain and fell to her knees, still clutching the hilt of her sword wearily. She grasped the wound as he came closer. "Fool!" He said, triumphantly as he grasped her by her neck and drew her towards him. She could feel his chilling breath in her face and she frowned, the pain coarsing through her body. "No man can kill me! Die now!!" He spat, tightening his grip on her throat. She felt her breathing become shallower and she was finding it harder with every second.

Suddenly she saw the Witch King back off, letting her go as something struck him in the back, a blade. Eowyn took this miraculous chance and stood up, staggering slightly. She pulled off her helmet, "I am not man!" She said fiercely, driving the blade into where the Witch King's face should be though there was nothing except black. She drove the sword in and then it heated up and she drew it back, throwing it to the floor as the heat flooded up her arm, burning her severley. She fell back, clutching her arm as it stung and the pain was unbearable. She watched wearily as the Witch King's helm writhed and then he fell backwards, collapsing dead on the grassy floor.

Gandalf struck down Orcs as he chased after Pippin. Once on the Pelennor, Gandalf had lost sight of the little hobbit. He winced at the screams of pain, but one stood out from all others. A scream that could only be characterized as the symbol of fear amongst the peoples of Middle Earth. It was the scream of the Nazgul. Gandalf looked to the air and saw the remaining Nazgul on the Pelennor racing toward something. He looked back down and glanced around the fields to see that they were racing toward their fallen master and a woman. As he could see the woman was Eowyn! Gandalf hastily ran as closed as he could and held up his staff. As it was held there, a light like no others shone toward the Nazgul. Try as they might, they could not overcome the light. They flead in fear and disbelief. Gandalf hastily ran to Eowyns side and lifted her head and put it n a few torn rags.

"Healers! Come unto me! Healers!" he shouted. Finally, after much shouting, gaurds came to their aid. They put Eowyn on a stretcher and carried her back to House of Healing. He smiled and fought on...

OOC: I meant for this to be so much longer than it is. Editing just made it better though...

BIC: After Merry had been brought to the Houses of Healing in the Citadel, Pippin wouldn’t leave him. He had promised Merry he would take care of him. And he would. He had to make sure Merry would be alright.

He was worried about what would happen to Merry. For as long as Pippin could remember, they had done nearly everything together. Even after Boromir’s death they weren’t separated. Until Gandalf had taken him out of Edoras to Minas Tirith, Merry had been there with him. Now he was faced with the possibility that his best friend might die.

‘What would I do without him?’ Pippin asked himself. ‘He’s always been there for me. What will happen if suddenly he’s not there to tell me how bad my ideas are or to ‘borrow’ some of Farmer Maggot’s crops with?’

Pippin felt like he was utterly alone suddenly. The thought of going home without his friend and cousin was devastating to his mind. Merry had to live, he just had to! Pippin lifted his head as he heard something move.

“Pippin?”

He looked up and saw Merry looking at him. He was alright! He didn’t have to worry about going home alone.

“It’s me, Merry.”

“I knew you’d take care of me.”

“It wasn’t me; not really, Aragorn did most of the healing part. I’ve been sitting here keeping you company is all.

Merry gave a slight nod and drifted back into slumber. Pippin was ecstatic! He crept quietly out to go tell Gandalf that Merry would be alright, and left Merry to rest.

OOC: So is anyone actually playing Aragorn then? Cos he hasn't been portrayed in the battle. And Aragorn heals Merry and Pippin at the end of the battle. I am just asking.

BIC:

Eowyn felt herself slipping... deeper and deeper. All around her was black but she could not see the light around her. She stood and a faint light shone, though she could not turn, and instead she felt herself standing still...staring at the horizon line. Then suddenly her arm was in pain, an excruxiating, blinding pain. She fell to her knees, clutching in desperately but it was no use... the pain still flashed up and down her arm causing her to cry out in pain. Her breath was ragged and she felt her head aching, unable to keep consiousness. Giving in to the darkness that surrounded her she fell down on the floor... the evil engulfing her.

The shieldmaiden's eyes fluttered open suddenly and she saw Aragorn looking over her with a worried look in his eyes. She took a deep breath, savouring the freedom from the darkness she had just had to endure. She only smiled at Aragorn, though he nodded in understanding, only leaving when he knew she would be allright. She turned and saw Eomer sitting anxiously beside her and she smiled and said quietly, "I'm sorry... for causing you grief!" She said, shaking her head, though it hurt to do so, "Eomer... I-..." She didn't know what to say. Instead she just smiled sadly and he nodded and she gently slipped her small, cold hand into his and when he looked down at her she sighed slightly and managed a very weak smile.

Merry was not all right, even though he had been healed and awake. In his mind the were dark, haunting shapes leering at him. They were trying to take the poor weak hobbit. As he slept smokey shapes grabbing at his mind, twisting his reality and making it different. The new reality was filled with horrors few had seen. There were images of hobbits and men being tortured. The fields of the Shire were black and barren. There was no sun or warmth.

We have lost, Merry thought. His chest rose sharply as the thought and images came into his head. We always had been lost. Sauron came before we left, Merry thought.

All of the images melted together and turned into a firy smoke. It reached out and wrapped around him - strangling him.

In the reality, Merry screamed a bloody-murder. It was so high and terror filled and reached all over the castle.

((I think someone else should play him because it might be better than me playing him all the time. I was not sure what else I could post so I just wrote this. Btw- can I use a bit of the chapter from the ROTK book later on. You know with the thing between Faramir and Eowyn? I thought it would add more depth, whereas the movie doesn't really. Would that be ok later on in the rpg? ))

Eowyn's eyes fluttered open and she found herself in a different room, Eomer was gone... she gently eased herself up against the plumped up pillows but her injury made her grimace in pain and bite her lip slightly to keep her from screaming out. It washed over her like the tide and she shut her eyes for a moment and breathed deeply in and out... in and out...in and out. She gave herself a moment before opening her eyes again and sitting up, swinging her legs slowly out of the bed.

The stone floor was freezing cold and on her bare feet she padded softly over the floor and to the window. It seemed the battle had almost ended... though the fires were still burning, the black cloud of Sauron's still hovering over Minas Tirith and she still heard many cries of battle. It seemed to be dying down though. Who had won she could not tell... she just hoped that it was not Sauron's forces. However if Sauron had victory then no doubt the city would be burning and being destroyed, even as she stood there...

Her eyes scanned the area and she looked down from the window and saw many soldiers bustling past, some with injuries and some helping the wounded. One caught her eye in particular and she gazed down at him, a smile on her face. She noticed him smile back and her grin broadened, he seemed to study her face and she smiled softly at him...

And then suddenly, a scream cut through the air! She startled and immediately walked from the window, trying to find the source. She walked across the room as quick as her wound would allow her without causing major pains and realised then that the shout was of a hobbit! Merry! She thought desperately...wondering what was wrong. They'd been separated in battle and she hadn't been able to find him since! Quickly she walked and pushed open the door gently to where the shout came from. "Merry!" She gasped, partly in relief, "What's wrong?"

OOC: Sure you can bring that in. I am Farry and Aragorn.

BIC: In his dilirium, Faramir weakly opened his eyes. He saw the most beautiful woman he had ever set eyes upon, smiling down at him. Wearily, he returned the smile as he took in every little detail that he could until he slipped back into the blackness fever brought.

***

Aragorn had rushed in right before Eowyn had. He held one of the shoulder's so that he would stop fighting and thrashing. The other hand rested upon the brow of the maimed and ill hobbit.

"Merriadoc, n'alaquel tuulo' i`huine. lle mori ósanwe il anwa. n'alaquel tuulo' i`huine nwalma lle," Aragorn chanted softly. Both hobbit and man broke out in a cold sweat. Aragorn stared down at the hobbit as he chanted those words. He stared with determination and concentration. The cold sweat for him was because the elven magic he had just used took a lot of energy out of him. He closed his eyes and leaned back.

Merry had calmed down slightly, at least he had stopped yelling out. His brow was covered in a cold sweat from the fear he felt and from the illness Merry suffered, but he had no fever. The hoobit's face was lined with worry and fear. He seemed trapped in his mind and what was in his mind was terrifying to him. Every once in awhile, the hobbit whimpered pitifully and clutched at the blanket with his left hand.

Slowly, the king opened his eyes. "What is wrong with him?" he repeated, "He was direly wounded at Pelenor. Merriadoc struck the witch king and the impact. Peregrin found him far from the scene. He thought he was dead. I thought he had passed on when he had been brought to me. Merry was lifeless and ashen. Barely a breath was in his lungs." Aragorn shook his head. "He is now tormented with dark and twisted images..." The king drifted off and closed his eyes wearily again.

Translation: Merriadoc, back from the darkness. Your dark thought not real. Back from the darkness tormenting you.

OOC: JP between Nipp and I.

Aragorn stood wearily. "I will be back soon," he said to the fair haired woman, "I think Pippin is in need right now. Merry seems to be better when he is near." With a fleeting glance at Merry, Aragorn strode down the halls looking for Pippin.

Pippin ran down a corridor in what he thought was the direction of the House of Healing. He had heard Merry cry out. As he tried to navaigate the unfamiliar halls of the Citadel, he nearly ran right into Aragorn .

Aragorn peered down at Pippin as the hobbit came barreling through the halls. "I was coming to get you," he said to Peregrin, "You are required in the House of Healing. Merry needs you. His mind is plagued with deep and dark thoughts." Aragorn thought it was best not to hide anything from the dear hobbit.

"I heard him cry out earlier. I was trying to get to the House of Healing, but I think I might be lost..." Pippin replied, "Could you help me find my way there?" Aragorn agreed and they both returned to the House of Healing.

Aragorn just nodded as Pippin spoke. He did not say a word as they went down the halls. When they were to the House of Healing, Aragorn quietly opened the door and led Pippin over to his cousin.

Merry's face was still ashen and it was drawn in fear and some pain. He grasped at the blankets tightly with his left and the right lay motionless.

Pippin felt a fear return to him. 'What if Merry doesn't live?' Pippin grasped Merry's motionless right hand. "I'm going to stay here with you Merry. You're not alone." Pippin sat beside Merry's bedside and continued to hold his hand.

Aragorn stood near Eowyn and watched Peregrin and Merriadoc. The man looked at the woman. "You should be resting," he whispered to her.

He screamed out as Pippin took hold if his hand. The pain was etched on his face along with the fear and angusih he felt because he was sure of the tricks his mind was playing on him.

Pippin released Merry's hand. He looked as his own hands as if they were an evil seperate body. "What did I do?"

Pippin looked at Aragorn, his eyes wide with fear. "Why is he screaming?" Pippin asked. "Will he be alright?"

"You did nothing Peregrin. His arm, it pains him greatly. See how he only holds the blanket with his left hand? It is because to use it causes him anguish," the ranger explained gently to Pippin. The man looked down at Pippin. "His mind has been twisted with dark images. In his mind, because this is the will of the nazgul, he sees that everything is lost and he is terrified. Merry is lost in the dark thoughts and needs the light." Aragorn nodded to Pippin as he spoke. The man let his eyes drift towards Merry. "Physically, he will be fine, but mentally... that is up to Merry. He could be lost to us because of dispair. Meriadoc's arm will heal well enough with time, but his mind that may never heal. He could become trapped in the thoughts and darkness. Then he would be lost to us."

Pippin looked down at Merry. What could he say to ease Merry's mind? What could take his mind off of the darkness that was hurting him?

"Do you remember that one summer Merry? When we were younger, back home in the Shire?"

Pippin didn't know what affect his conversation was having on Merry, but he hoped it was good.

As Pippin spoke to him, he felt himself calm. There was good in the world and perhaps not all was lost.

"Go on," the king urged Pippin.

Pippin nodded to Aragorn. "You were trying to show off for one of the Hobbiton girls when we we visiting Frodo, and Sancho Proudfoot threw rocks at us and one ended up hitting her in the back of the head and she fell face foward into your arms? Then there was that time when you tried to teach me to swim at the river. I nearly drowned, at the time I wasn't to happy about it, but now that I look back on it... It really was funny."

Pippin went on and on about their former escapades. Merry began to slowly relax.

Aragorn stood from where he sat. Gently, the king placed a hand on Eowyn's shoulder. "Come," he said to her.

Merry's mind was clouded and still there were dark and ghastly images, but they had retreated. He could not see them as clearly as before. The hobbit now heard soft and caring murmurs. They relieved some of his agony. What a smart person this was to talk to him so. How did he know that this was what he needed?

Pippin continued to talk about the past for hours until he had run out of things to say. Merry was more relaxed, though he was not awake. Pippin could tell that his rambling was helping, and he was hesitant to stop, but he was beginning to feel his eyelids drooping. He was about to fall asleep himself.

Aragorn stood near Eowyn and watched Peregrin and Merriadoc. The man looked at the woman. "You should be resting," he whispered to her.

Eowyn simply looked up at him and glared at him slightly before sighing and then whispering back, "Really? I could say the same for you." She said, looking at the man. She shook her head and then looked to the young hobbits and a sad smile graced her face for a moment. When she heard Merry scream in pain she wanted to run to him but held back tentatively, watching Pippin talk to his cousin. She bowed her head, tears coming in her eyes again. Although the hobbit appeared to be relaxing, she'd grew quite fond of him and she did not wish to see him in so much pain.

However the shieldmaiden knew she could not do anything to help him... it was between Pippin and him. She sighed and looked up wearily as Aragorn stood up and came towards her.

Gently, the king placed a hand on Eowyn's shoulder. "Come," he said to her.

She nodded and followed him out the room, taking one last look at Merry and Pippin before Aragorn closed the door behind her. She stood silent for a moment and then looked up at him, "You should be resting too, Aragorn. I know there is much to do but you must be tired?" She asked, concerned for the man.

"My job is yet not done," Aragorn said gently.

The man looked at the hobbits with downcast eyes. Things would be tough for both of them and the healing would take time.

Merry had seemed to have calmed down conciderably. There was no turmoil on his face, though there was pain.

"He will heal in time," Aragorn said, placing a hand gently on her shoulder, "The pain he feels will slowly fade. It cost a great concequence for him and you to slay the witch king."

He led the White Maiden of Rohan down the hall and back to her room.

"I shall rest soon," he assured her, "On the road a ranger learns to do without sleep, I am fine. You, you have come from the brink of death and need to rest."
