Maedhros- after Thingol gave leave to the Noldor to settle in Dorthonion and in the lands East of Doriath.
'A King is he that can hold his own, or else his title is vain. Thingol does but grant us lands where his power does not run. Indeed Doriath alone would be his realm but for the coming of the Noldor.
Was Maedhros accurate in his assessment or was he just being arrogant? Could Thingol still lay claim to any of the lands beyond the Girdle of Melian?
