Post Elvish name. What does it mean?
on: March 04, 2014 12:07
Hi

I took the Elvish name generator on a site sometime ago and got the name Thaurturiel. Can anyone tell me what that name might mean? I would be very thankfull. Thought I might use it, but want to know the meaning of it first.

Also wonder about the names: Nienna, Erida, Thradien, Thraraviel and Thraralia

Hope someone can help with the meaning of these 6 names... if there is.
Thanks

Thaur = Abominable, abhorrent
tûr= mastery, victory
-iel = female ending akin to 'daughter of'

Nienna isn't Sindarin, it's Quenya, and the name of one of the Valar . Means something along the lines of (I have little knowledge of Quenya other than word roots) 'she weeps' or 'she who weeps'.

Erida: if it's meant to be Sindarin, it could only contain perhaps 'er = alone, single' and nothing else.

Thradien: -ien is a female ending, but there's no word 'thrad'.

Tharaviel: -iel 'daughter of' female ending. Thara: could be a form of 'across' or a slightly mangled version of 'vigorous'.

Thraralia: there's not really anything here I can pick out that approximates to anything.
