Post A little help with translation please
on: March 17, 2014 09:04
Hello all,

Could you please help me out on some translation?

My husband-to-be would like his wedding ring to be engraved in elvish script:
- could you please help me translate: 'hand in hand, we will walk together forever'? Or something to that effect?
- and for it to be pretty (elvish font), do you know how I go about transfering it in an elvish font? The ring makers can then just scan it, sort of.

On an unrelated note, do you think it looks stupid if the message is then followed by a date written in Roman numbers?

Thanks a lot to all

The 'hand in hand' part I could translate for you, but it would be literal, and would not contain the idiomatic meaning of the English.
The second part however, is not a problem:

Go-badatham anuir = We will walk together forever

If you would like it transcribed into Tengwar (Elvish font), I would suggest you visit here: http://forums.theonering.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=104703&start=1770 she can also answer your question about using Roman numerals.

Edit: for the first part, what about:
Camenin mi gamegen = My hand in your hand

Thanks a lot for your help Galadivren

I was really hoping someone could help me out.
Now I'm going to follow your advice on the font - it looks like it is happening!

Thanks.
