Post A question on question words
on: October 31, 2015 03:04
Can question words be used in non question sentences?

For example, I would like to translate the sentence
"What man dare, I dare." -Macbeth, Shakespeare

I am reasonably sure that would translate to "Mana nér verya, veryan." However I am worried that the word "mana" in this case would make the sentence a question instead of a statement. ( "What man may dare, I dare?" )

Would this be an issue? Or would the context override the question word?

Yes, mana is a question word. The "what" in your sentence is short for "that what" and that's translated by tai.
Yassë engë lómë, anarties calali.
