Post Signatures- text beside the pic-how? (and some signature tips)
on: February 13, 2003 03:59
NOTE: for more tips about signatures: check out the signature-thread on top of the forum .

How do you get the text in a sig to appear beside the pic rather than above or below it?

A little bit of simple HTML can do the trick. If you want the picture aligned to the left, with the text beside it, put this code in your signature before the text:

Make sure there's a space between the last " and the word align. Then, enter your desired text after the code. You don't need to hit enter before you enter text after the code.

You can get the Realm Insignia from the Charter pages of most of the Realms. Most charters also give you the exact URL for the images, but if not, right click on the image, and go down to properties. That will give you the URL of the image.

Ok, I'm with you so far....but when I go to put in the code for the pic..it says I'm trying to put to much there...is it because my sig has too much already there?

The sig box will tell you that, but it won't force you to limit the number of characters. So you should be okay.

Ok, I'm back. This is the code I got from the charter page:

I put it in before the text of my sig...and nothing happened. I"m sorry I'm going to be a pest until I figure this out.... I appreciate your help...haven't quite mastered some of this stuff yet...

You can copy that exactly into your sig box, you had left out a couple spaces, so leave the one above as is...

Here's a GOOD tip for saving room in your sig! If the URL of the image is from CoE, you can leave off the http://www.councilofelrond.com ENTIRELY! So, for the above link you could just enter:

instead, so it's not as many characters. This helps ESPECIALLY with long URL's from journals.

Your picture isn't working because you don't have a URL for it. You can't just take a picture from your harddrive and use it, but rather you have to upload it online somewhere (like your CoE journal). To get the URL for any picture, simply right click on it, go to Properties, and copy the URL.

The URL for the image you're trying to use is wrong....Looks like there's a character or two out of place...Try putting this code exactly as I write it, into your sig...

I am so confused - where does one go to get the pictures to put in a signature? How do you copy them, etc?

Help!

I want to put either my ada or Rivendell there -

Hi Vanime perhaps you can best check out the updated thread about signatures, on top of the newbies forum (here).
Should that not help, then you can send me a pm for more information. Good luck

Thanks Errandir! I read all that, and even though I do understand a great majority of it, I am somewhat computerese illiterate, if you know what I mean...So please bear with me...
1. Can one use any of the COE art or wallpapers as a signature?
2. For the placement of the signature you just copy the url and put it between these brackets <>? Or do you need to know other fancy computer footwork word wise in addition to that?

Hope that doesn't totally confuse you with my confusion...lol

Let's see if this helps :

1. You can use wallpapers and art but if you use art, it's perhaps best to check with the artist before taking those images as a sig, since you are using other people's creations.
Make sure though that your image doesn't get too big, if you use the url referring to a wallpaper, it might cause your signature to be massive, which we can't allow.
2. you need to place the url between the " " in the following line: . Make sure to keep the " " in there too! If you want to put the image on the left, you can add the align-left command, just as explained in the topped signature thread.

Hope that helped.

Whoo hoo! It worked - what do you think Errandir?

Thank you so very much for your help! Not sure yet if I will keep the picture there, but it definitely worked! LOL

It definetly worked good job. Perhaps you can just take out the extra spacing in between the picture and text? so that your signature doesn't get too large . I think it should the the <_br> piece of code in it, that created the spacing (without the '_').

Errandir,

There was no <_br> part in my thingamajig...lol - but what I did do was move up the whole img src thing up to be under the last line in my signature. Hope that helps?

It was odd though...when I typed
Don't know if I confused you by how I described it, but wasn't sure if that was supposed to happen... But it did work to get the picture up, so who am I to complain?

LOL
