Post Quote of the week - Nov.16/03 (3.II)

From The Two Towers, chapter II, The Riders of Rohan:
'Good and Ill have not changed since yesteryear;nor are they one thing amongElves and dwarves and another among Men. It is a man's part to discern them, as much in the Golden Wood as in his own house."

I just love this quote, personally, because it's one of the rare times when Tolkien says something about his perception of ethics and morality. And he's a Kantian!

I'm going to take this quote as Aragorn strating that there is only one definition of good and evil. They are exactly the same for everyone.
In Middle-earth it is a lot easier to decide though. If you are evil you follow the Dark Lord, and if you are good ; you don't.
