Personally, I think it makes it more realistic w/o the pointy ears, more of a “Tuath de Dannan” feel.

There’s a comparison in the book that mentions elves and hobbits, and it’s about ears.
It’s the only hint that could tell that elves have pointy ears, such as the hobbits.
You can’t find it in the story, but in the foreword of Lotr. Either way, the picture is lovely.
