I don’t think he was ever really a fat hobbit, but true, he’s rather skinny. like a little boy. 🙂
ya, I think him, Frodo, and Pippin were the only really skinny hobbits in the Shire.

bear in mind they have been travelling for months on small rations (for a hobbit) and long distances…
then the seperation between the fellowship, that’s a lot of stress to put on a little hobbit.
