everytime a person who hasn’t read the books asks me about this scene, they think they’re going away to die.
anyone else get that?
LOl thats funny. I thought that when i read the book, but not any more.
Gandalf beckons for Frodo to join him..
fanson but isnt that true? well my mom told me that but shes wrong, right?
The spirit within us is eternal – we just return to our maker – our souls do not die, only the body.
This was done so nicely – into the west is a concept in many cultures – it is comforting to know there is more
everybody i know knows EXACTLY what happened. because i tell them. in excrutiating detail. go me.
Frodo is going to die, even in the Undying Lands, because he is mortal.
you’re wrong figwit. He’s a ringbearer, he and Bilbo (and sam i believe) can never die.
In LOTR it never really says whther they die or not. I always thought that in the undieing lands no-one dies,
including mortals. but if you check the forum you’ll find a lot on this subject based on Tolkien’s
other writings.
I second Figwit.
I reckon that the west is like heaven so all of Middle Earth can stay together
I think it was not within the power of the Valar to take away the gift of man. they are not bound to the…
“circles of the world” when they die they go “where the elves know not,” and leave Ea, right?
No, Frodo will die, because the valar can’t make a mortal immortal no matter where he lives. But he’ll get a c
hance to heal first. Uh… yeah, WeilderofNenya says it better.
I still prefer to think of the Undying Lands as heaven, and no matter what, there will always be eternal life.
The Valar are the Children of Illuvatar, and as such, carry out his plan on Earth. If it is Illuvatar’s wish
that Frodo and Bilbo live forever in the Undying Lands, so be it.
