Parody of "American Pie" by Don McLean

A long, long time ago, I can still remember
How the One Ring became Frodo’s trial.
We had to give him a chance,
And try to draw Sauron’s glance,
And maybe distract him a long ‘nough while.

But March, you know, it made me shiver,
When those orcs marched to Pellenor,
To Minas Tirith’s doorstep.
Not something that you forget.

I can’t remember if I cried
When I thought that I was ‘bout to die,
But something touched me deep inside,
The day the One Ring fried

So my, my, should be easy as pie,
Little Frodo off to Mordor
With Samwise by his side.
To old Mount Doom, to cast the Ring inside.
They’re singin’ “This’ll be the day that I die.
This’ll be the day that I die.”

Tolkien wrote Lord of the Rings,
The Hobbit, and some other things,
Not important right now, though.
Now, do you believe Far’mir survived,
With that orc poison workin’ inside,
Though his daddy tried to send him up in smoke.

Well, Eowyn fell in love with him,
As they were in the Houses of Healin’.
They both recovered fast.
Man, I dig that athelas!

I was a lowly, teenaged Hobbit-lad,
With as much foolishness as any Took had,
But I knew things were lookin’ bad,
The day the One Ring fried.

I started singin’ “My, my, should be easy as pie,
Little Frodo off to Mordor
With Samwise by his side.
To old Mount Doom, to cast the Ring inside.
They’re singin’ ‘This’ll be the day that I die.
This’ll be the day that I die.’”

Now, I’ve been here for a week or so,
Since I just had to grab that stone,
But, Gandalf took me and we rode.
Now I have to sing for Denethor,
In a coat of armor of Gondor,
And a voice with a rustic, Hobbit brough.

Oh, and while Denethor looked away,
We lit the watch-fire, saved the day.
The messege to Theoden,
To help his fellow men!

And while Bergil and I had a lark,
Gandalf and Denethor looked stark,
And two Hobbits were in the dark,
The day the One Ring fried.

They were singin’ “My, my, should be easy as pie,
Little Frodo off to Mordor
With Samwise by his side.
To old Mount Doom, to cast the Ring inside.
They’re singin’ ‘This’ll be the day that I die.
This’ll be the day that I die.’”

Helter-skelter, in a springtime swelter,
The orcs attacked our city shelter,
Unguessed numbers coming fast.
Blood was spilling on the grass.
The Rohirrim showed up at last.
Eowyn killed Witch King and needed a cast.

Well, the air was all perfumed with death.
It wasn’t pleasant, I confess.
We all prepared to fall,
But didn’t have to answer all,

Cause as the orcs were breaking through the walls,
Aragorn came, striding tall,
With an undead army, I recall,
The day the One Ring fried.

He was singin’ “My, my, should be easy as pie,
Little Frodo off to Mordor
With Samwise by his side.
To old Mount Doom, to cast the Ring inside.
They’re singin’ ‘This’ll be the day that I die.
This’ll be the day that I die.’”

And I was right there in that place,
Having stared death in the face,
With just a fool’s hope and a grin.
“So come on, Denethor, your son is sick!
Those poisoned arrows are a trick.
And, Faramir, you know, he is my friend.”

Oh, as I watched Den’thor in the tomb,
My eyes grew wide realizing doom.
Denethor’s palantir
Drove him mad with despair.

And as Denethor called for a light
To burn them both, I cried “Not right!
You won’t take him without a fight!”
The day the One Ring fried.

I was singin’ “My, my, should be easy as pie,
Little Frodo off to Mordor
With Samwise by his side.
To old Mount Doom, to cast the Ring inside.
They’re singin’ ‘This’ll be the day that I die.
This’ll be the day that I die.’”

Frodo, you know, was my kin.
I’m sure glad Sam went with him,
When the fell’ship split away.
He took the ring to Mordor,
To break it, like I said before.
Lost his finger, and sanity, on the way.

And then, back here, the Nazgul screamed,
The orcs fell back. We were redeemed.
And Sauron, he was no mo’.
Eagles picked up Sam and Frodo.

And the Hobbit we admired most
Was a good excuse for a toast.
And ever after, we could boast:
“The day the One Ring fried.”

And we were singin’ “My, my, should be easy as pie,
Little Frodo off to Mordor
With Samwise by his side.
To old Mount Doom, to cast the Ring inside.
They’re singin’ ‘This’ll be the day that I die.
This’ll be the day that I die.’”

We were singin’ “My, my, should be easy as pie,
Little Frodo off to Mordor
With Samwise by his side.
To old Mount Doom, to cast the Ring inside.
They’re singin’ ‘This’ll be the day that I die.’”
