When I am Free
We see Eowyn looking out from atop Meduseld. She all at once begins to sing in a soulful voice:
Many nights I’ve dreamed,
That I could ride with Eh-Oh-Mare,
In my soul I feel a dream
That nobody understands.
Now I am not that scared,
Although I know that battle’s feared.
I was wielding swords and spears
Before I knew I could.
Chorus:
I will find peace in death,
When I am free.
Though my soul’s caged,
I’ll still escape.
Who knows what goals I’ll reach,
That make me believe,
When I am free.
Somehow I know,
I’ll fight when I am free.
We cut to after Theodred’s Funeral. Eowyn starts singing again. This time with more feeling:
In this time of woe,
When death did take Cousin Theh-Oh-Dred,
My hopes seemed like some rules non-used,
Never enforced, only said.
But now I’m standing here,
My soul so free,
I cannot see
The things I’ve dreamed,
Use of things I’ve learned,
Will soon be on their way.
