Merry’s accent by pippin_rox
Merry’s accent is indiscernable ‘cos the actor, Dominic Monaghan, was born in Germany but moved to the UK when he was 12.

He’s clearly making an effort with the accent, but it fluctuates somewhat. (As do they all). At the doors of Moria his line ‘What do you suppose that means?’ is rural English, presumably Somerset or Devonian. However the rest of the time this accent is less pronounced. It appears to be an ‘educated’ form of the accent Sean Austin uses.

Being English myself, I find it slightly easier to these discern accents lol. Both Merry and Sam speak with a West Country accent… ie from the area of Devon and Cornwall. Every now and then, however, there is a slight hint of American that comes through Sam’s accent which makes his sound different to Merry’s. With regards Merry, Dominic Monoghan’s natural accent is what is commonly known as Estuary English although he affects the previously mentioned West Country accent for the role.
