Prologues by k
I was very impressed with the changes Jackson made to the prologue, they summarised or simplified the details in the history of the ring that would relate to the story to come. This is actually a very hard thing to do accurately as anyone who has tried to explain the story to a non book fan will be able to tell you.
Much as i adore the hobbits and would have liked to see more of an introduction to them in the theatrical version it was probably unecessary, the hobbits characters become obvious during the films without needing a voice over introduction.
Prologues almost always set the tone for the remainder of the film, Jackson did a good job in introducing both old and new fans to his version of Lord of the Rings.

I agree fully. When Peter Jackson said in the extended that the prologue was 7 minutes long, I couldn’t believe it. It is so well done that you don’t even notice the time going.
Considering there was always going to be sacrifices to be able to shorten it to movie length, I agree that Jackson did a superb job, especially here in the prologue. The importance was that he kept the essential morals, values and themes of the books throughout the film, and I endeavor to say he definately did.
The prologue may be a bit misleading, implying as it does that Sméagol found the ring. That inpression, however, is corrected in the RotK prologue. I don’t think mentioning that would be seen as a spoiler at this stage, but if that’s a worry, a comment such as “see RotK prologue” might do the trick.
I agree wholeheartedly. The movies, when compared to the books, are so alike it’s beautiful. However, if you look at them with a scrutinizing eye that picks at Mr. Jackson because he didn’t use real Undead Ringwraiths, you see differences. Many, differences. Like as an example, lines said by Elrond at the Council in the books were given to Aragorn, and vice versa. Saruman was blamed for the attack upon the Company when they scaled Carhadras, when in reality, or bookality as someone I know once put it, the mountain itself was trying to get rid of them.
Manephelien, good comment! I’ll make sure to incorporate it in the ROKT Prologue article.
