She fought incessant raids against her town for twelve years along with her older brothers. When she was fourteen, she went on a trail of bandits with her best friend, Nitarue, when another raid attacked her village. This raid, twice as large as the usual battering amount, destroyed their village, ravaged their homes, killed her brothers and father, and kidnapped her mother. Nitarue’s house was wrecked identically. For two years, Nitarue and Atara wandered, mercilessly killing bandits, until Nitarue one day disappeared. Atara was left alone with her horse, Ibendu, and a chipmunk which wouldn’t leave her alone by the name of Sipelle.
