Where the Angels Cry

Here is the full account of the Journey of Dinenrandir, the Silent Pilgrim of the Falas to Gondolin, the city of seven names. Namely, Gondolin stands in most of my stories since it is the most majestic and powerful place to put stories through behind those walls and namely because of the battle and its origins, since it was once a great lake, but Morgorth destroyed it and the water drained out, making it the Hidden Vale. Alas it was nighest to Angband and has an extradionary part to the House of Hador’s descendants and the House of Fingolfin’s descendants also to become know to become the descendants of Eärendil and there came the kings of Númenor and Elrond Half-Elven. The story will come up to the destruction of Beleriand of the Host of the West….

Chapter 01: Of the Silent Pilgrim

Círdan was a great lord of the Falas and he was one of the surviving Eldar who woke near the starlit Lake Cuiviénen, where
the Quendi were first awaken from their deep slumber from Eru. Alas then there was Oromë the Vala came and looked in wonder and happiness as he told the other Valar of the Firstborn of Eru and he came back to the Lake Cuiviénen again, bidding some of the lords of the Quendi to go. Alas then Círdan still walked by the lake, still admiring the Seas and the Sea always spoke in his ear and heart like of Tuor, the son of Huor who is told later in this tale. For many years have passed and the Vala Oromë on his great steed Nahar returned with the three lords and they had the light of the Trees of Valinor in their eyes. There began the Great Journey and the Quendi who came through the journey were called the Eldar, people of the Stars since Oromë called them that in their own tongue. There Círdan came with the people of the Teleri and he longed for the Seas and the Trees of Valinor. There as the Teleri host, after many hardships came to the River Sirion, and they dwelt there longing for their friends the Noldor and the Vanyar to return. But there Ossë and Uinen came and befriended the Teleri and Ossë would teach them sea-lore and music of the sea.

Then one day, Ulmo the Sea Lord returned and bade the Teleri to finally depart to Valinor. Ossë was grieved since he would never hear the voices of the Teleri would never be heard again in his domains, which were the seas of Middle Earth and shores of the Lands east of Valinor. There then Círdan came and Ossë told him to persuade some of the Teleri to remain in the Hither Lands and with the help of the Maia, Ossë persuaded some of the Teleri to stay. There they were the Falathrim who lived in the coasts of Beleriand in the domain of Ossë and Círdan. Círdan with the Falathrim his people, built the havens of Brithombar and Eglarest, and hewed the birch trees and their wives and daughters sown the sails for their beautiful ships that only were the ships that were to ever return to Valinor. There the first mariners were to sail the oceans of Arda and were also the first makers of ships in Middle Earth. Alas then, it must be told of one of Falathrim named Aearon the Fair. Now Aearon was in fast in friendship with Círdan and Aearon was good and strong in making of the ships. Now it is told of Aearon’s ship, Luinsurienen, the Blue Wind, where the sea foams arounds it as it sails around the coasts and the Great Sea.

Now here is told of Elwë and his enchantment in Nan Elmoth and his wife Melian the Maia and the Eglath, another part of the Teleri that forsook Aman and waited for the lord Elwë to return. Now Elwë changed his name to Thingol and he looked as if a lord of the Maia, since his hair was grey silver ad was the tallest of all the children of Eru, the One. But alas one of Thingol’s kin came on a journey to the Falas with a small group of the Eglath from Elwë and told of the Lord of the Teleri’s return. Now Aearon was returning back to the havens from voyaging the seas. He looked upon Alfirin, one of Thingol’s kin. He then came to port and walked in fairness with her. After seven years of living in the havens of Brithormar and Eglarest, Alfirin bore a child. His name was Dinenrandir, the Silent Pilgrim, because he never talked much and his eyes were grey and his hair was silver grey as he was blessed from the Valar.
Now many years have passed and Aearon now brought Dinenrandir with Círdan since Aearon and his ship would go to the Isle of Balar to gather pearls since the shores of the Isle of Balar were great and beautiful.

There as Aearon and his wife came to the boat and sailed off to the Isle of Balar, Círdan soon taught Dinenrandir the art of shipmaking and asked him why didn’t he talk so much to any of the Teleri. Dinenrandir then looked at Círdan and he perceived that the young son of Aearon and Alfirin would be of the high honor of the Teleri and would be an excellent mariner, but Dinenrandir closed his eyes and told Círdan of a dream that he had in his sleep the day after he was born. Círdan was enamoured of the words of Dinenrandir and he didn’t understand the words of the young elf. He then taught Dinenrandir the art of the seas and Dinenerandir still didn’t say anything, since the dream was ever still in his mind. Now it is told after six days of toil, Aearon and Alfirin arrived back in the havens and messengers came from Thingol from his new realm of Nelderoth of the evil plight of Morgorth still lived and he bade them to make arms. Then a great doom came among the Teleri that still lived in Beleriand.

Morgorth now send large raids of Orcs to destroy the Teleri. There Círdan and the Sea Elves of the Falas and the King Thingol were battling at the haven of Eglarest. There Aearon and his son, Dinenrandir clad in armor now aged to become an Elven warrior battled along side with Círdan and the great number of Orcs were strong and Thingol was cut off from the havens. But it came ill to the Elves of the Falas, and Círdan and the warriors of the Falas were driven to the rims of the seas. But there came at last the great rally of the remaining Falathrim and kept guard upon the walls and were besieged. But at the time, Fëanor came to the firth of Dregnist and burnt the ships of the Teleri, there came the Orcs who came in great number to the North and the Elves of the Falas then had control of the havens and the coasts of Beleriand once more. But good now came since the Orc host was destroyed by the Noldor who came back to Middle Earth and the Teleri that still lived in Beleriand rejoiced of their coming and there came of the Sun and the Moon.

There also now came the Noldor and the coming of Men, where the Noldor had created the realms of Hithlum, Gondolin, Narthrogond, the land between the Hills of Himring, which was now called the March of Maedhros. And then Caranthir, son of Fëanor lived near Lake Helevorn and there came the son of Fëanor and the Naugrim and they learned many things both. Now Dinenrandir never came near the lands of Caranthir and he didn’t like the news of the Teleri and messengers of the Noldor who came to the Falas. But he was in great friendship with the sons of Fingolfin and Finarfin since they were fair and enemy most to Morgorth. Now hearing of the great realm of Gondolin being made, he and a appointed company of the Falas came secretly to the Hidden Vale of Gondolin and he was also a great blacksmith, learning it from Finrod Felegaund, Hewer of Caves since the Naugrim called him that. After two hundred and fifty years of toil and hard work, Gondolin was conceived and Dinenrandir smiled as he looked at the great city and many of the Teleri and the Noldor were joyful in their work and Turgon their lord looked at Dinenrandir as he was in the King’s court, looking out to see the great encircling mountains. Turgon then came to him and asked why he was here all alone.

There came the first sundering of Dinenrandir and he told Turgon, the Lord of Gondolin of that he came to be alone, to ponder of a high dream that he had. Turgon looked dismayed at the word and he told Dinenrandir that he could anywhere that he wished in Gondolin since he had toiled long here. There Dinenrandir lived after many years and in Nirnaeth Arnoediad, he proved fearless and fell as he only wielded a spear called Durist, since it was bright in light and he slew many orcs with his great bow. But then it came the time to pass of the Fall of Gondolin where Morgorth sent great strength against Gondolin, since its location was revealed by Maeglin. But there was a great battle upon its walls and Dinenrandir battled greatly for the city that he had part in of its making and he slew many orcs and Balrogs before he was swept away from battle and he journeyed with Tuor and Idril Celebrindal and the remanement of Gondolin, and Dinenrandir left away from the path and journeyed through the ruins of Beleriand alone, and walked in sorrow, since he had finally deciphered the dream. It showed of the high doom of the Noldor and the Teleri and the Free Peoples of Beleriand. But then after many hardships of battle with his spear and bow, he finally came to the havens of Brithomar and Eglarest and there many of the Falathrim were joyful of the coming of Dinenrandir and saw of his armor clad and he longed to see his father.

But his father and mother perished by a Orc Raid that came at unawares to the walls and Aearon and Alfirn were slain by arrows. There Dinenrandir wept and he heard the sounds of battle the next day. Orcs have came to destroy the walls of Brithomar and Eglarest. There Círdan came and wept in joy for the return of Dinenrandir and he fought greatly until the walls broke of the havens and the Edain Hero Tuor and Idril led the remanement of the people to the mouths of Sirion, where Eärendil was lord and Dinenrandir looked in wonder at the Silmaril of Fëanor and that came to the doom of the havens of the Mouths of the River Sirion, since the sons of Fëanor came upon them for the Silmaril and that came the last kinslaying of the Eldar. There Dinenrandir looked in anger and slew Amrod one of the sons of Fëanor. But Círdan and Ereinion the High King of the Noldor came too late and the remanement of the havens of the Mouth of Sirion came to bind themselves with the people of the Balar.

Now it is told that Eärendil came to Valinor with the Silmaril of Beren and he came upon the behalf of the Two Kindreds. There came the Host of the Valar and there was the remanement of the Noldor that did not leave Aman and the Vanyar came also, and there befell the greatest battle of Beleriand, the War of Wrath, where the Host of the West came agains the Host of the North. There befell Morgorth and the fall of Angband. But the slaves and prisioners of Morgorth came and looked in wonder at the change of Beleriand, for such the strength of both of the adversaries, Beleriand was destroyed under the Sea and the mariners of Círdan left the Isle of Balar with the remanement of Doriath and Gondolin and the High King of the Noldor. There also came Dinenrandir who was silent still and was upon his father’s boat, Luinsurienen the Blue Wind to the Grey Havens and that is where this tale ends of the journey of many paths of the Silent Pilgrim.
