All of Elvereth’s kin left Middle Earth and sailed into the West. They pleaded with her to join them but she refused as she felt that the time was not yet right for her to leave. They left her, utterly disgusted that she would choose to stay in Middle Earth over her kin. Elvereth never forgave herself for what she had done and so she laid a curse upon herself. The curse was that she must travel around Middle Earth helping everyone in whatever way needed and to never ignore a plea for help. She lives in Rivendell but is rarely there for long. She is constantly on the move aiding people in whatever way she can. She befriended the Rangers on her travels and stayed with them for some time. They taught her many things. She knows her way around Middle Earth very well. She can read all kinds of tracks, knows a lot of Herb lore and she knows the tracks and places where the Rangers travel.
