bWhere the Red Dew Falls

This is the full account of Havagor, the Tall Swordsman of the House of Hador. The House of Hador was renowed since they did many deeds of great power against the Throne of Morgorth and the other houses of the Edain did the same, helping the Eldar raise war upon the Dark Lord, but now throughout the sorrows of the House of Hador. The story will begin at the history of Galdor and Gundor and then it goes on detailing the Battles that Havagor had joined upon to find solitude against Morgorth…

Of Hador Lórindol and the Fall of Fingolfin

Hador Lórindol was the son of Hathol, son of Magor, son of Malach Aradan, and he was bright and tall. He joined the House of Fingolfin in his youth and was loved by Fingolfin and his householdd. There Fingolfin gave him the lordship of Dor-lómin, and Hador gathered most of his people of his kin and came to live in Dor-lómin and was known to be the mightiest of the Lords of the Edain, the Three Households of Men that first entered Beleriand and gazed upon the Eldar’s kingdoms. Throughout in his land, the Elven Tongue was only spoken but they forgot not their own tongue but it came to be the common speech of Andor, the Land of Gift. Now Hador and his people were renowned since they were closest to being Elven Lords and they were quick to anger and laughter, and were strong in stature and ready in mind and bold and steadfast.

Now came to Fingolfin, the High King of the North and of the Noldor seeing that his warriors and the Edain were strong and numerous, and wondered an assault once more upon Angband; for that he knew a siege from Angband would be strong and the Eldar and the Edain would fall one by one by the overmastering might. But Morgorth now scorched Ard-galen and it was called Anfauglith where many bones laid. Morgorth then let his hosts out of Angband and Glaurung the Golden came and in his train was Balrogs, Wargs, and thousands of Orcs in such strength the Noldor ever saw. Now Morgorth assaulted each of the Eldar and the Edain fortresses one by one and the greatest of Morgorth’s foes were defeated. Thus ended the Siege of Angband and one of the renowned of the House of Bëor, where Barahir lord of the house of Bëor, since his brother Bregolas was slain with most of the warriors came and saw Finrod Felagund and was surronded by many orcs near the Pen of Serech and Barahir with the bravest warriors cut their way to Finrod and made a wall of spears around him, cutting their way out of battle although with many losses.

There returning to Narthrogond, Finrod Felagund came and gave Barahir his ring and an oath abiding to that he would help the house of Bëor in any need. There his doom was full wrought, and Barahir returned to Dorthonion, but most of his people fled to Hithlum. Now Hador was with the hosts of Fingolfin and his son Fingon and the great host couldn’t come to aid the sons of Finarfin and the hosts of Hithlum were pushed back to the fortresses of Ered Wethrin with great loss and sorrow. There Hador Lórindol, peer of the Elven Lords fell, defending the rearguard of his lord Fingolfin, and with him his son Gundor, pierced with many arrows and were mourned by many, there Galdor took the lordship of his father, and by the strength of the Shadowy Mountains and the valour of the Eldar and the Edain, which none of Morgorth’s forces could over come and Hithlum was unconquered.

But the war had came ill with the sons of Fëanor and the eastern marches fell and the Pass of Aglon was force and great losses were to the hosts of Morgorth, and Celegorm and Curufin were defeated and fled to Narthrogond and the strength of the hidden city was large and numerous now. Maedhros, once imprisioned on Thrangorodrim was a white fire and he slew many orcs and they fled before his face. There the Hill of Himring stood and the warriors of Dorthonion and of the remanement of the East Marches rallied to the son of Fëanor and forced through the passage of Aglon, for that none of Morgorth’s host cannot go through that road. But Glaurung came and ravaged the lands of Thargelion, the land of Caranthir and he fled and joined Amrod and Armas, and they retreated to Amon Ereb and they were aided by the Nandor.

Now news came to Hithlum and Fingolfin thought of the utter ruin of the Noldor and he was filled with wrath and despair, he rode on Rochallor his great horse and alone he passed over to Angband alone in a great fury and many beheld him as Oromë had came for that such madness came upon him, his eyes were like the eyes of the Valar. There he came once more to Angband’s gates and smote his last time on the gates of Angband and challenged Morgorth to single combat. And Morgorth came and he was tall and evil and it was the last time that he ever came out of Angband. Now he fought with Fingolfin with single combat and he seven times tried to strike Fingolfin but there Fingolfin darted away and slashed at Morgorth several times, and thrice was the High King of the Noldor crushed to his helm and he was put hard to it since Morgorth put his left foot to Fingolfin’s head and with great strength, Fingolfin hewed Morgorth’s foot and Fingolfin, most renowed of the Elven Kings of Old fell and he dwells now in the Halls of Mandos.

Of Havagor

Now Gundor, son of Hador had a son called Havagor, the White Swordsman. There Havagor was but 16 years old when he came to war with his grandfather and father and he battled greatly and slew many orcs before Hador his grandfather was slain with his father Gundor, pierced with black arrows. Now Havagor had bright starlight in his eyes since he looked upon many of the Eldar’s face and he soon became as one and he always wore a rainment of white armor and a white sword, called Silmegil, the White Sword of the Edain since it was white and its light was never extinguished by the Darkness. Now since the Fall of Fingolfin from Morgorth, Havagor fled to Hithlum since his mother was slain by a stray arrow from an Orc Raid that tried to conquer Hithlum, but the valour of Fingon son of Fingolfin the hosts of Morgorth were held back.

Now it was time when Havagor looked out from the mist of Hithlum and journeyed out to Tol Sirion, where Orodreth lived. But when he got there, Sauron captain of Morgorth and his wolf legions had driven out Tol Sirion and it was now called Tol-in-Gauroth, the Isle of the Werewolves. But Havagor still didn’t know of the evil plight and he was almost near the tower where Sauron looked at the Edain and found out that it was indeed Gundor’s son. Now the son of Gundor looked in dismay as Sauron’s wolves came to waylay him. There befell one of Havagor’s greatest deeds, renown among the Edain. A company of Wargs were on high pursuit of Havagor and he then readied his bow and and he aimed the bow at the lead Warg. He then let loose the arrow and the Warg Leader was pierced in the eye by the arrow.

Now the other Wargs caught scent of Havagor and one by one each of the Wargs fell to the marksmanship of Havagor. Now he then saved his last arrow and he unsheated his great sword that was bright and long. He jumped from the thickets of where he was hiding and the Wargs took notice of him and he then let loose his last arrow, and he then ducked as a Warg tried to jump over him. The Warg’s belly was wide open and Havagor thrusted the sword up toward the sun. The Warg stopped and black blood dripped all over the ground as Havagor jumped and hewed another Warg. Now he called out loud that the son of Gundor had arrived and now Sauron laughed and looked as his small Warg company was slain one by one.

Havagor was joyful as he jumped on a Warg and kicked the Orc Archer and watched it land into a rock. He then took the arrows and let them fly, while the Warg was trying to shake him off. But Havagor was a strong horseman and he laughed and jumped off as the Warg ran into the rock and a arrow pierced its eye. Now the company of Wargs were slain one by one by Havagor who had laughed in joy and his sword gleamed as if of the sun and he strung his last arrow and hewed the last Warg in the company. He then fell down, full of weariness for that there were at least one hundred fully clad Wargs in the company. Now it was dawn and Havagor woke up and saw that he lie by the stream and many of the Warg bodies stll lay on the ground with carrion fowl coming near and eating the carcasses of the Wargs. Now it came to pass that Havagor now began to trail the stream down to the River Narog and he saw Narthrogond where Finrod Felagund made the Noldor armory. Now Havagor looked upon and with keen eyes he saw the sentinels in the midst.

There befell a great battle where the sentinels of Nathrogond thought of that Havagor was a servant of Morgorth and he saw a bow and ducked as an arrow flew over his head. He now unsheated his sword and parried the arrows. The White Sword then parried each of the arrows and then a stray arrow came and smote Havagor in the leg. Havagor then fell to the ground once more and he beheld the Sentinels of Nathrogond and woke up once more. He saw the large sentinels firing arrows at a Orc Band that was trying to move through the River Narog, unaware of the existance of Narthrogond and Havagor woke up and strung an arrow and fired at the banner bearer of the Orc Band and the sentinels were glad of the Edain warrior and they fired hunderds of arrows before the Orc Band was scattered and the hunters came in strength and slew the remaining orc and dragged their bodies and burned them and a great fire was seen and Morgorth was dismayed.

Now Havagor was sent to Finrod Felagund and he saw that he was an Edain of the House of Hador. There Finrod treated him with great honour for that he was the son of Gundor, who was slain with his father Hador in the rear guard defending Fingolfin their lord. Now it was seven years before Havagor decided to return to Dor-lómin and he saw Húrin and Huor, of his kin and were cousins since Galdor was their father. Now Havagor and came and he lived in bliss and grew stronger to manhood and there after the fourth battle, Morgorth renewed his assault and resolved to attack Hithlum with great force. There in the siege Eithel Sirion, Galdor son of Hador fell in battle by a arrow, and he held on behalf of Fingon the High King and the same pass that Hador Lórindol fell not too long ago. Now Húrin and Havagor in such a rage came to the house of Hador and the two cousins came and slew the Orcs all the across Anfauglith with great slaughter.

There Húrin son of Galdor the Tall was the Lord of Dor-lómin and Havagor now was full in manhood and he was now fair and strong. He then waited and resolved to Hithlum for that the tides of war was still high and Dor-lómin was still being battled upon by skimishes by small companies of archers trying to invade the reaches of Dor-lómin. Now it is told of Beren of the house of Bëor and Lúthien, daughter of Thingol and Melian. Now the two had reached through to Morgorth and cut off a Silmaril of Fëanor. Now Maedhros was now in thought of the onslaught of Morgorth and the Hosts of the Edain, Swarthy Men, Eldar and the Naugrim were ready in battle and were mustering forces to assault Angband from the East and West.

Now Fingon looked out from the walls of Ethel Sirion and he saw the sons of Galdor and Gundor were patiently waiting among the woods and he saw that Havagor had his metal bow with the archers of Dor-lómin, and he waited patiently and he saw Morgorth in fury at Thangorodrim and its flames went up and their challenge accepted. Now came a cry where the unsummoned and unlocked for Turgon had came from Gondolin the Hidden Kingdom with an army ten thousand strong fully clad Gondolin warriors. And now Morgorth sent great force over to assault Hithlum. Now Húrin bade them wait and to assault when the host broke themselves upon the hills. Now the treacherous servants brought Gelmi son of Guilin, lord of Narthrogond who was captured in Bragollach and blinded him. Then they slew him, and Gwindor his brother saw and he was great in anger and wrath and he leapt on horseback and Havagor saw many riders follow him and slew the heralds and drove too deep into the main host and the host of the Nodlro were on fire and Fingon sounded his white helm and sounded the trumpets.

There Havagor once came renown and he then came with his great bow and fired all of his arrows into the host of Orcs and when all of his arrows were spent, he came in great force with Húrin and Huor and the hosts of Hithlum and broke through, but Gwindor was captured alone and Fingon couldn’t come to his aid and Fingon was beaten back with great loss and the main host of Morgorth came on the plain of Anfauglith. Now comes one of the most greatest battles in all of Arda’s history and Haldir lord of the Haladin was slain in the rear guard and Havagor and Húrin and Huor battled in strength and the Orcs came and surrounded the host of Hithlum and in the morning and the Silmegil grew brighter as Havagor hewed another orc and Turgon came and the phalanx of the guard of Turgon and broke through the ranks of the Orcs and Turgon hewed his way to his brother and Húrin and at the third hour of morning, the trumpets of the sons of Fëanor came and broke through the Orc Host and it is said that the Eldar might have won the day if theirs hosts had proved faithful.

Now Havagor laughed in glee since the Wargs came and he fought alone coming through alone in the front line and he then showed Silmegil and he fought with great strength and there lay many Orcs and Wargs on the ground dead and a Balrog came and it was grim, since Havagor smiled and he then took out his bow and jumped back each time as he let his arrows fly into the Balrog. He stepped back thirty times before he came back into the Host of Hithlum and the Balrog fell, with fifty arrows pierced into its body.
Now Havagor had renown and he had now gotten a new quiver of arrows and now Glaurung came and came toward the host of Hithlum and many fled to higher ground of the terror of the Great Worm, and now the plots of Ulfang was revealed. Now the sons of Fëanor were assaulted on three sides and Maglor slew Uldor and the sons of Bór slew the sons of Ulfang although they were slain themselves.

Havagor then looked in fury as the Dwarves of Belegost were the last to stand of the Eastern Forces and Havagor looked in pity since Glaurung came and struck down Azaghâl, lord of Belegost and with the last strength, Azaghâl drove a knife into the belly of the Great Worm and the beasts of Morgorth and Glaurung fled. But the lord of Belegost fell and the Dwarves of Belegost then left the battle and none of Morgorth’s host didn’t assault them no more. Now it came to the tide of the West and Turgon and Húrin were thrusted toward the Fen of Serech. Then the warriors of Turgon and Húrin saw the fall of Fingon and Turgon wept since his brother fell to Gothmog. Now Havagor heard the words of Húrin and was silent and he and the remaining warriors of the House of Hador and the stand of the men of Dor-lómin was renowned.

Now Havagor was battling against the Orcs and he used all of his arrows and he saw a stray arrow come near to Huor. Havagor then jumped before the arrow and it slew him in the head. Now Huor and the men of Dor-lómin wept, for that was the son of Gundor and Huor after that was slain by arrows and Havagor’s body and armor now burned with a white flame and he now was in the Halls of Mandos. There right after he saw Huor come and walked toward him. And now Húrin stood alone and he slew most of the troll guard of Gothmog alone and he cried seventy times before he was hauled off to Angband by Gothmog, Lord of Balrogs. Now Havagor looked in sorrow in the Halls of Waiting and Mandos bade him to come.

Now since Havagor came to jump in front of Huor to save him from a arrow which was renowned of Havagor’s last deed and Havagor then bade Mandos to release the Curse of Mandos upon the Noldor but Mandos say nea since the oath caused the kinslaying of the Teleri. Now Havagor was on a Telerin ship from the West of Valinor and he was praised among the Falas and Círdan. There he lived in the Isle of Balar and came to the Grey Havens and smiled since the Sea was now in his ear since Ulmo bore him toward the Falas. And there the Host of the West came and Havogor now smiled and Beleriand was destroyed and the Ocean came and drowned most of Beleriand.

Now there came the Edain and Eärendil brought them to the Land of Gift, Andor, Númenor and there is told in tale that Havagor dwelt until he departed to Middle Earth with Elendil and there he dwelt in Arnor until the High King of Gondor and Arnor returned to the throne and there he dwelt at the Grey Havens and with the bidding of Ulmo and the Valar, he came to Valinor and he was sundered from the fate of Man since he came from the Halls of Awaiting and he now dwells in Valinor.
