Her mother died when she was young, so Ilmare, nicknamed Rana by her father, was largely raised by her father, a ranger of Ithilien. He loved his young daughter too much to be seperated from her for the long journeys he had to make, so he took her with him. From him, she learned how to shoot the bow and fight with both sword and dagger, but she favored the bow strongly.

On a trip to Ithilien, her father introduced her to an old friend of his, Prince Legolas, originaly of Mirkwood, but now also a lord of Ithilien. Ilmare admired Legolas greatly, and began modeling her shooting skills after his own. Legolas gifted her with an elven bow, quiver and arrows made in Mirkwood, and Ilmare never shot another bow again.

Elvish was the language predominatly spoken around her as she grew up, so Elvish has always been the language she falls back on when she is excited and forgets the Common she has learned.
