Where the White Flower Grows

This is the account of Ithiliden, Starmoon. This depicts the fall of Gondolin and the chief parts of the Silmarillion of where JRR Tolkien wrote of Ecthelion’s slaying of Gothmog, ere he was slain too. And the defence of the King’s Tower and the Fall of Turgon was terrible. Now a Balrog would’ve of killed the survivors of Gondolin but not for the valour of Glorfindel, chief of the Golden Flower of Gondolin, but both fell into the abyss. Then the account comes to the Return of the Vanyar and the War of Wrath.

Of Ithiliden and the Fall of Gondolin

Now Ithiliden was a bright elf with grey eyes of starlight since he was born in Valinor. He never knew his father and mother, since of the Kinslaying of the Teleri, but he was deemed of the Noldor since he had golden hair and was strong in quarrying after metals and was skilled in the works of the Noldor. But Ithiliden had a sharp glance that could pierce through many and Turgon heard of Ithiliden and he bade him to go with his Turgon’s sister son, Maeglin and he then went to the forges of Gondolin which were in the western side of Gondolin.

Ithiliden then saw Maeglin come with the other members of the company of Elves that quarried after metals in the North. Now they were armed in armour of regular standard, not showing their standards since Morgorth would find the location of Gondolin. Now Maeglin bade him to get some armor from the forges that were just fully wrought. Ithiliden saw the white bow and arrow and smiled. He would need these for something. He picked up the bow and arrow and he put on the white armour of Gondolin, which was very fair. Maeglin nodded and cried out loud, “Let us go!”

It was night fall when the company rode across the plains of Tumladen and they were bidded by the guards to open the gate to the mines of the Encircling Mountains. Now the mines in the North of Gondolin were secret and were used as a guard to defend themselves against Morgorth and it was the steepest of the peaks and they were few to watch the northern peak, at most one hundred warriors patrolling around the mountain side. And the guards would be warned of any of the Enemy’s servants were advancing toward the mountain and the guards would send a messenger to the City and tell the lord and the Eagles would drive away the servants of the Enemy.

Now Ithiliden was led to a area were at least several miners were mining in the room with a large forge in front of them. Ithiliden then came to the forges and Maeglin ordered the elf to forge a sword since Ithiliden only had a bow and many of the warriors of Gondolin had forged their own weapons since their fathers were making in part of making the fair City of Gondolin. Now Ithiliden then forged his sword which he worked on all day and night and he smiled as he pounded his hammer in the liquid metal and thought of a great battle against the Orcs of Morgroth and he was battling against the Orcs in great stature with his arrows.

Finally after four days of hard labour, Ithiliden finally made his sword which was called Calenril, Light Flame. And he forged anew the bow he had taken in Gondolin and forged it white and he called it Curil. Flaming Bow since it was white and whenever Ithiliden let loose an arrow from Curil, a white flame burns the tip of the arrow and sends a fire upon any servant of Morgorth that was kindled and it was strung by an elf hair of Ithiliden himself. Now when Ithiliden at last finished his weaponry, Maeglin came and bade him to come with the Company of the Elven Miners of Gondolin. Now Maeglin came in secret forth from the mountain with the company and now as they walked through the plains before the Encircling Mountains, a loud yell of jeering hate was hate was heard in the North and the Company of 30 Elves now drew out their long swords and there a company of 100 Orcs came in fully clad armor and tried to assail Maeglin and his company.

There Ithiliden fired an arrow and smiled, since the arrow was flaming white and its fire came upon the Orcs and many of them were on the ground slain with many arrows before the Balrog came. Now the Company began a retreat through Dorthonion and Ithiliden then cried out in anger and dismay as the Balrog grabbed Maeglin and the Balrog ran towards Angband. Now Ithiliden and the remaining Company came on great haste towards Gondolin and went directly to the King Turgon. Now he grieved at the capture of Maeglin but he knew that his sister son and his only heir was in Angband but he saw Maeglin in battle and he was fell and fearless, he wouldn’t tell the location of Gondolin…

Now it is told in tale of Morgorth and Maeglin and he betrayed Gondolin since Morgorth would make him his vassal of Gondolin and have possesion of Idril Celebrindal who Maeglin desired most in all of Gondolin. But Idril loved him not, but loved the Edain Hero Tuor, son of Huor who won the hearts of all the people of Gondolin. Then Morgorth bade Maeglin to return to Gondolin, to make sure he would aid the assault. Now Maeglin came back and had a smile in his face and evil in his heart, and waited for several years before

After several years, Eärendil was born, child of Tuor and Idril Celebrindal and the people of Gondolin were glad and Gondolin was in bliss in splendour for several years until the Doom of Mandos was near where all of the Noldor’s works would perish. Now Ithiliden now came to age and he became more skilled with Curil and now as he looked out from the northern reaches of the Encircling Mountains, he warned the guards to send a messenger to Gondolin of the hosts of Morgorth have arrived, and were moving straight to the northern mountains. Now Ithiliden ordered the warriors to get ready to defend the northern side of the mountains and he then took out Curil and pointed his arrow upward to the dragons of the North.

“NAUR!” yelled Ithiliden as he let loose his bow and the arrow turned ghostly white and slew a dragon and the Orcs that were under the dragon fell and were squished to ground and now hundreds of archers were firing at the mountains and Ithiliden then bade the warriors to return to Gondolin. Now there were hundreds of orcs running through the mountain passes of the north of the Encircling Mountain and inside the warriors of Gondolin were running to their companies and were waiting for the great gate to open. Now Ithiliden was the sole survivor of the northern guard since the orcs fired their arrows through the passes. Now Ithiliden then yelled in anger and dismay since the whole Northern passes of the Encircling Mountains were full with thousands of the servants of Morgorth.

Now Ithiliden was running toward the large stair ways to the walls and ordered the archers of the walls to keep firing arrows out into Morgorth’s host, hoping to help the companies that were defending the passes of the city. He then fired all the arrows in his quiver before he sought a quiver and he let more arrows fall upon an Orc Legion fall upon his arrows and many of them burned by the white flame of Curil and now a great dragon came up to assault Gondolin and the archers kept firing at the dragon until it fell and the Gates of Gondolin were hewed down by the Orcs that were in front of the doors.

Now the company that held the Gate was strong and fell in battle. The Orcs were driven back by the hundred of arrows were falling upon the orcs and now Ithiliden ran towards the Gate seeing that a dragon had came and its flame withered the company. Now Ithiliden by fate of the Valar, fired his black arrow into the dragon’s chest and smiled since it was smote the dragon and it fell, with the Orc Legion destroyed and now the remaining were hewing their way through the dragon carcass to get into Gondolin.

“They are driven back. We must still hold the position.” Ithilidin said as he saw the many bodies slain at the Gate and out on Gondolin’s great walls that rivaled even Elven Tirion. Now Turgon sent a messenger to Ithiliden to tell that a company of archers were coming to reinforce the walls since they were now few to battle against the arrows that smote against the walls of Gondolin. It was night and the company of archers of Gondolin arrived and it was tallied of at least 100. Now Ithiliden smiled since he saw the gate was still barred by the dragon’s carcass and he then orderd the archers to fire arrows at any orcs or servant of Morgorth.

Now it came to day and the assault of Morgorth was renewed and the Balrogs came and broke through the Gate and now were followed by many of the Orcs. Now Ithiliden and the remaining archers let their arrows fly into the hordes of goblins and orcs and Balrogs. Now it came to pass of hope since another company of Gondolin blade warriors came in full armor and stemmed the tide of the orcs and the bodies of the orcs were many and now alas the company of Gondolin warriors were driven back to the Kings Tower and Gothmog Lord of Balrogs came and it was grim and Ithiliden with the remaining archers were driven back from the walls and were scattered and were aiding the maidens and wives and children out of Gondolin with Tuor and Idril who prepared a secret way out of Gondolin.

There Ithiliden came to Tuor and saw Tuor casting Maeglin out into the rocks of Gondolin and Ithiliden then yelled for Tuor to lead the survivors and the archers that still lived harried the hordes of goblins and now Ithiliden ran back to the King’s Court and saw the battle between Ecthelion which was grim since Ecthelion ran with his great sword and Morgorth blocked the sword and cast Ecthelion in a thong of fire. There Ithiliden gasped and he fired a arrow in the back of Gothmog and a white fire appeared on the Balrog’s back as the arrow hit its back. Now Ecthelion with all of his strength jumped and hewed Gothmog, but didn’t know that Gothmog had his black sword and hewed Ecthelion right after Ecthelion threw his blade into its chest.

Now the Balrog fell and Ecthelion also and a hoard of goblins now were going toward the Kings tower and alas Turgon came in utter wrath and he was in a fury and then a large company of Balrogs came and started hitting the tower of Turgon and Turgon then yelled in despair as a stray evil orc arrow caught Turgon in the chest and now Turgon was strong of spirit since he was son of Fingolfin and the light of Aman was still in his eyes.

But that came to no avail since the tower was cast down and Turgon fell by a Balrog who hewed his head off. The white helm glowed as Turgon fell and his great tower. Now Ithiliden then took a quiver from a dead archer that lay next to him and he loosened all the arrows at the Balrogs who each fell with six arrows in each of their chests or throats. Now Ithiliden then ran out of the King’s Square, now wielding Calenril in his full might, hewing any of Morgorth’s servant’s in his path. He was in such a fury his sword turned brighter and he finally came by the pass and found Glorfindel battling against the Balrog.

Now Glorfindel was the Chief of the Golden Flower of Gondolin and he came against the Balrog that would have slain the survivors of Gondolin but for the valour of Glorfindel, both were engaged in a duel upon a pinnalce and each cast each other out to their dooms into the Abyss, but Thoronder came with the Eagles of the Heavens and slew the orcs, casting them away into the Abyss and Thorondor bore back the body of Glorfindel and he built a cairn for him and golden flowers bloomed until the destruction of Beleriand….

There fell Gondolin, the city of seven names and it was mourned by the survivors of Gondolin as they came to the havens of Sirion and they saw the remanement of Doriath and the Exiles then took upon the art of Ship Making and Ithiliden then became a mariner and came to the Isle of Balar and he then mourned like many others of the Mouths of Sirion and the Isle of Balar when Tuor and Idril sailed to Valinor alone in their ship. Now Eärendil Half-Elven, son of Tuor and Idril Celebrindal ruled the Mouths of Sirion and Círdan was in fast frienship and
Círdan built Vingilot, the ship of Eärendil and he then came to Valinor by his wife Elwing, daughter of Dior, son of Beren Camlost and Lúthien who took a Silmaril of Morgorth from his crown.

Now by delivering the errand of the Two Kindreds, Eärendil then came to become the Star of Hope, since he has the Silmaril bound to his brow and he keeps a watch upon Morgorth Bauligar ever since. Now the Vanyar, the highest of the Elves came to the Hither Lands to wage war upon the Host of the North, who became too numerous, that Anfauligth couldn’t contain it so that the whole North was aflame, but it availed him not since of the Vanyar were strong and fair and terrible and they destroyed the uncounted legion of Orcs and few ever troubled the world after. But none of the Eldar and the Edain didn’t go to war, since they have already created history for their renowned deeds against Morgorth. Now Angband was destroyed and Morgorth was thrusted into the Doors of Night and Beleriand was destroyed and the Vanyar rejoiced and returned back to Valinor but didn’t get the two Silmarils since the sons of Fëanor held their oath and perished….

Now Ithiliden lives in the realm of Lindon of where the High King of the Noldor, Ereinion Gil Galad dwelt and now Círdan the Shipwright still dwelt there until the last Eldar leaves for Valinor and there he will leave on his ship to Valinor, where he dwelt ever since the beginning of the Age of the Stars.
