History:

Elwë and Olwë were both lords of the third clan of the Elves, the Teleri, and together they lead their people from Cuiviénen to Aman. However, during a long wait in Beleriand Elwë disappeared. After years of searching, Olwë grew impatient, and led the greater part of the Teleri to Valinor, on the insistence of the Vala Ulmo.

Olwë became lord of the island of Tol Eressëa, where the Teleri built a great number of cities, and grew in number. When they finally came to Eldamar some centuries later, Olwë became King of Alqualondë. His daughter Eärwen married Finarfin, son of Finwë, and later High King of the Noldor in Valinor, and thus their children, when these returned to Middle-earth, could claim kinship to Thingol. Besides Eärwen, Olwë had several sons.

Túrë was Olwë’s grandson. Son to Ornélion (Trees of Stars), Olwë’s last son, and Axëa (Bony), he came to be Eärwen’s youngest nephew, and a follower of Turgon, whom he idolised. Born in Y.T. 4969, he was a friend of Turgon’s daughter, Idril.

A distant relative of Thingol, he wished to see his family in Beleriand and when Turgon marched out of Valimar, he followed. (Although Turgon was originally against the departure of the Noldor from Aman, he eventually did set out on the journey. After Fëanor and his sons departed using the only ships, he took his people across the dangerous Helcaraxë with his father Fingolfin. He lost his wife Elenwë in the crossing and settled at Vinyamar in Nevrast. There he became lord of a mingled people, both Noldor and Sindar.)

On the way over Helcaraxë, Túrë began to fall in love with Elnaira. When she chose to remain within Nevrast, he elected to stay back, to his great delight, Turgon made his hold in Nevrast as well.

Elnaira could not move away from the sea. Always she looked over to the west for what she had given up. She thought she was trying to get her family back together but all that she had met was the fall of her beloved brothers.

Slowly, she developed a close bond with Turgon’s trusted friend, Túrë, and he coerced her into moving inland. It was he who gave her the epessë “Nieninquë”, “white tear”.

Túrë related to her of how while Turgon was journeying with his cousin Finrod Felagund along Sirion, Ulmo sent both of them a dream to look for a hidden place where they could be safe from the power of Morgoth. In the following year Ulmo had appeared directly to Turgon and guided him to the vale of Tumladen in the Encircling Mountains, in FA 50.

Elnaira was appalled at the idea of not seeing her brother once she moved into Tumladen for that was the price of safety. But when she met Erumelmo in the year 64 of the first age, he told her to go. He wanted her to be safe and away from harm, so his mind could be at peace.

So she left with Turgon and Túrë as they later secretly moved, taking a third of the original followers of Fingolfin and many of the Sindar, deserting Nevrast, and building the city of Gondolin. The disappearance of so many of their brethren led many Elves to search for the “Hidden Kingdom” of Turgon.

Túrë joined the House of the King, Bar-en-Aran – which comprised of the King’s family and bodyguard.

Túrë and Turgon’s daughter, Idril, were Elnaira’s greatest company. Túrë was deeply in love with Elnaira but he wanted to give her wounds time to heal.

Turgon re-emerged with his host during the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, and although the battle was still lost, it was during Nirnaeth Arnoediad, “The Battle of Unnumbered Tears” (F.A. 471), that Túrë found Erumelmo and brought him back with him to Gondolin. Elnaira was finally reunited with Erumelmo – she was finally happy and wholeheartedly agreed to marry Túrë.

Túrë, subsequently, had twin sons named Fëaranya (F.A. 470), and Eäheru and a daughter, Lindalë (F.A. 492).

When Gondolin was attacked, some of the soldiers of the House of the King (Bar-en-Aran) fought to protect their King and they died with him – and amongst those was Túrë (F.A. 510).
