On with Magoleth’s Chat ~ Nienna’s Newsletter

“How does it feel to be Faerie Godmother of Nienna.” I asked, picking a remnant of hedgehog from between my teeth.

Magoleth took a sip of tea, leaned back in her chair and smiled.

“I am tickled pink!! To be honest, after earning my 100 points, I could not decide what Unique Title I wanted, so I put up suggestions and asked for answers in a brown envelope. ‘Faerie Godmother of Nienna’, was chosen for me by the members of the Realm, with a little input from Nienna’s Chief Weeper and Dwarfess extraordinaire.”

I wrinkled my nose at my cup of tea and asked whether Magoleth had something a little more suited to an Orc palate.

She waved her wand and produced a small flask of Orc wine. “Thank you, dear. So apart from changing pumpkins into coaches and frogs into princes, how else do you spend time around the Realm?”

“Well,” Magoleth replied, “I chat to members and hopefully make them laugh. I encourage them and if they have problems I try to help. If I can’t help, then I know a person who can!” I try to come up with new ideas for members participation. As do other members in the Realm.”

She laughed and leaned forward…”We are a craz… errr, lively bunch. I think that my wand will come in handy, as I it will enable me to liberally sprinkle the Realm with creativity dust”

I decided to go for the throat, figuratively speaking of course, although her legs did look tasty!!

Smiling wickedly, showing a row of broken yellow teeth, I asked pertinently. “You are, I believe you are the oldest Niennite.” I waited to be changed into something unnatural, but no!!

Magoleth merely grinned. “I am the oldest, but by nine days only! As our Chief Weeper would be quick to add.”

“Being an Eldar,” I continued, “Do you tire easily?” I stifled a grin.

“Well, sometimes I can’t sleep at night so I prowl around the Realm and with the time differences, I get to speak to members who are on at different hours,” Magoleth answered, gesturing with her wand over my now empty flask.

“Yes, thank you, that would be lovely,” I nodded, watching it fill with a dark purple liquid. “And what do you enjoy about the Realm of Nienna?”

Magoleth looked at me over the rim of her cup, as she took a drink of her tea. “The wonderful mix of people from all walks of life, countries and backgrounds. We have a Member training to be a Doctor, many Students, a Web Designer, Teachers, Professionals, horse lovers, to name but a few. So many wonderful people all drawn up with one love … The Professor and his works. We also seem to collect members of CoE Staff. Lol!! Mods and Admins. I am proud to be a Member of Nienna and was honoured to be a Weeper/Leader, myself, for two terms.

“Sounds a wonderful community!” I rejoined, draining my flask.

“Oh it is, without a doubt. We share happiness and sadness and pass around Hugs when needed. Hugs are very important!. There is a deep sense of camaraderie in Nienna which you would expect from the Lady of Tears’ Realm.”

“So Weepers and tears. Nienna is a sombre Realm then?” I queried, eyeing my empty flask.

“Oh, no, no, not at all,” Magoleth quickly responded. “Sometimes, I am sure the laughter can be heard right across Middle-earth.” She spread her arm in an arc to emphasise the point. “Although we also have serious discussions and threads of varying interests. And there are the Socks, of course.”

“Ah yes, socks. Tell us a bit about the socks.”

“Well, it all started a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away! We have a thread named Forth Eorlingas, and someone started eating socks and passing them around to other members. There are Mint flavoured and frozen iced ones in the summer, Hot ones in the winter, Menthol ones when someone had a cold, candy one and of course chocolate ones. But we keep those secret from Yavanna.”

Magoleth tapped her nose, grinned and continued. “We have lost count of the different kinds of socks that have been handed around but they are enjoyed by all! And of course there are plenty of other games we play on Nienna.”

As there did not appear to be a refill of my flask in the offing, I rested my elbow on the table and cupped my chin in my hand. “Well, I musht be leaving shoon, sho ….” I grinned lopsidedly, covering my mouth as I hiccupped. Strong stuff that Orc wine!

“One lasht queshtion, Gaerie Fodmother. What do you do with your spare time, when you aren’t modgothering the Realm? You do have spare time, don’t you.”

Magoleth thought for a moment, her mouth curling into a mischievous smile at my slightly slurred speech.

“I have a little spare time, yes, When I am not my local AmDram Group. I don’t act much nowadays, but I do so love directing plays. I read a lot, LOTR mostly, but do enjoy other books by authors such as Tom Clancy, Dan Brown, Wilbur Smith and Douglas Reeman. That’s where I get my ideas for battle scenes from for RPing! Did I mention I love writing.”

My eyes were beginning to droop, but I waved my hand for Magoleth to continue.

“I run the house and take care of my husband of 35 years marriage, I look after the grandchildren when they come to stay. I love holidays and am in the throes of looking for a job so that I can go to America next year to visit some of the wonderful people I have met through CoE, and especially Nienna.”

My chin hit the table as Magoleth nudged my elbow with her wand.

“I sew,” she continued, smiling sweetly, “I go only lovely days out with my best friend, Rosearialelven, I visit family and this year I had a wonderful birthday, celebrating 60 human years. I’ve been to Spain, Italy, Egypt, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and next year I could be flying across the Pond …. By plane, of course. Have to save magic dust for more important things,” she said, winking.

Stifling a yawn and conjuring up some Orc politeness …. yes Orcs can be polite!! I pushed my chair back and stood up.

“Well thank you, Magoleth for your time and hoshpitality. I’ll bid you a good day and be on my way.”

The lady held the door open for me and waved goodbye as I meandered down the garden path. I turned and waved back, and caught her grinning. What was she grinning at, but I shrugged and gathered up the large fluffy tail that was trailing behind me.

“Funny!!” I said, a puzzled look crossing my face, “I don’t remember this when I arrived.”
