Saoirse Ronan (who was in The Lovely Bones, directed by Peter Jackson) has signed on to play a role in The Hobbit movies. As yet the part which she will play is not known. You can read the full story here.
Shooting for The Hobbit has been delayed after director Peter Jackson was admitted to the hospital, after complaining of acute stomach pains earlier this week, which were diagnosed as a perforated ulcer. After surgery to repair the ulcer, Jackson is reported to now be resting. Read more about it here.

Peter Jackson’s assistant, Matt Dravitzki, has told The Otago Daily Times that scouting for locations for The Hobbit movies has started. This is taking place in both North and South Islands in New Zealand.
The rumors are that filming for The Hobbit will start on 14th February, St Valentine’s Day! Exactly where in New Zealand has yet to be confirmed but the actors will be flying out to Wellington in the next two weeks. You can read more at Scoop.

The Otago Daily Times report that a group of would be hobbits, auditioning for non-speaking roles in the forthcoming movies, stayed silent as they had all signed agreements not to talk to the media.
On his website Ian McKellen talks about his thoughts of reprising the role of Gandalf and confirms that he will begin filming in Wellington, New Zealand, on 21st February 2011.
