New Zealand forges ahead

Richard Taylor, the Director of Weta Workshop Limited (Lord of the Rings special effects) is part of a taskforce that will join forces with that county’s government to develop New Zealand’s innovative film and television industry. Scoop Media has the story.

Ash Wednesday on Saturday

Independantly filmed Ash Wednesday, directed by Edward Burns and staring Elijah Wood, was shown at a special screening at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, on Saturday. Click on the festival schedule to read about the movie plot.

New Poll

If you look to the right, you should see that there is a new poll topic to vote on. The previous poll, about your favorite action figure, had Legolas as the winning favorite, with Aragorn as a fairly close second. You can view the results of that poll to see how the other votes fell.

Counted among the greats…

At Premiere magazine we find that Peter Jackson is ranked 41 out the top 100 most powerful people in the entertainment industry for 2002.

He’s not done yet…

They are filming extra scenes in New Zealand. From the article at Stuff: The Evening Post understands the Rings production company Three Foot Six has been filming extra scenes or “pick-up shots” for the next film, The Two Towers, on Wellington’s waterfront in a secure area of the Centreport complex. Filming at the port is believed to have started early this month.

Centreport chief executive Ken Harris confirmed “film shooting is happening.” He didn’t know what it was for. However, signs with “Jamb” printed on them have been spotted in the area. Three Foot Six has in the past used those signs as a code to point the way to where it is filming.

Most of the pick-up shots that have been filmed recently have been done indoors at Jackson’s Stone St studios in Miramar. Many of the trilogy’s stars, such as Liv Tyler and Christopher Lee, are set to return to Wellington in the coming months for filming. The Two Towers is set for end-of-year release.
