"His scanty beard straggled on his lumpy chin like dried moss. He was short-legged and fat-armed, thick and stumpy, and clad only with grass about his waist."
The major Oscar Nominations have just been announced, and can be seen at Oscar.com. Return of the King is up for eleven awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

There should have been an actor nominated! Sean Astin should have got it! He was great in that! I don’t think half of the people who usually win best actor/actress, or even best supoorting actor/actress would have given a better performace!

Ooo, good job for the cast and crew of Lord of the Rings! Eleven nominations for the Oscars! Wow, that’s pretty cool. 🙂 I bet they’ll win all of them or at least most of them.
I wish they would’ve got nominated for best supporting actor/actress and best actor/actress. Miranda Otto, Sean Astin, Elijah Wood, and Ian McKellen should’ve won those! Ah, oh well.
Good luck Peter Jackson and his crew!

i’m quite happy for them! it’s well deserved! yes, there should have been some actor/actress nominations, but 11 is quite a big number for oscar nominations when you think about it. i hope they sweep all 11, just like they swept all 4 golden globes.

I agree with the rest of the commenters where are the actor nominations?!?
I’m glad that RotK got as many noms it did (really, I am) but think that the Academy still see LotR as a epic visual fantasy movie, and not as what it really it: a epic story bought to life with characters, cultures, history and the visuals.

Congratulations to the cast and crew who gave their all to make such a wonderful movie! I agree, Sean Astin and Elijah Wood should definitely have been nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. It would’ve fit the movie so perfectly! But congrats to RotK for all the other nominations!

I almost did a Rumplestiltskin when I saw Alec “I have two expressions” Baldwin’s name under the nominees. Alec Baldwin, the Al Gore of actors, while Sean Astin acted his guts out and is ignored? Bunch of twits! >:P
OTOH, Alec will walk away prizeless and forgotten after the ceremony, while 50, 100 years from now Sean Astin will stir hearts as Sam, the loyal hero!

Congratulations to RotK…but I, like everybody else, wish that Sean Astin had been nominated. Miranda Otto might have even had a chance if the Houses of Healing stuff had been in the Theatrical Release.

Well its about time the world figured out what we know. I do wish Sean Astin wouldve had a nom, but within an enemble cast,, and with so many outstanding performeces how could anyone pick just one?
Here we go guys, count down to the oscars.
Now is their time to shine as we knew they would.

Hey good for RotK!!!! That sounds awesome! Supposedly, LotR is a complete shoo-in for the Best Picture and the Best Director categories and I must say it’s about time! It’s only been nominated for two years already!! I really hope Peter Jackson gets Director, because he really deserves that! Original Score and Original Song were given to RotK at the Golden Globes, so we have a pretty good shot at that too!
But I must admit, I’m a bit let down at the fact that NO actors were nominated from RotK!!!!! If not Viggo for Best Actor [his chances of winning wouldn’t have been great, but…] at least Sean Astin! Samwise Gamgee MADE that movie what it is! Sean Astin did a kick butt job and he DEFINATELY deserves a nomination in my opinion. I personally find it hard to believe that a movie nominated for Best Picture can have NO nomination in the acting categories! That sounds like reversed logic to me: the movie’s good enough, but the acting isn’t? If the acting isn’t good, the movie isn’t good, and it is really as simple as that!
Whew……well, there’s my say in all this! But anyways, go RotK!!!! go Go GO!!!
