Hugo Awards 2004

Lord of the Rings has won two Hugo Awards. Return of the King won the award for Best Dramatic Presentation – Long Form and Gollum’s acceptance speech at the MTV 2003 movie awards won the award for Best Dramatic Presentation – Short Form. There’s a full list of all the winners here.

Lord of the Rings Exhibition in Boston – special events

Special events at The Boston Museum of Science include a demonstration of forging on 11th September and on 20th September it’s College Night when students can visit the exhibition for just $5. On 1st October, there’s a free lecture entitled “Editing Wizardry” this will be presented by Annie Collins (Assistant Editor to Jamie Selkirk) who, “will use samples of her work on The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King to talk about the process and the story behind editing the last film in this epic tale.” There are further details here.

Time Warner bid for MGM

CNN reports that Time Warner, who owns New Line Cinema, “has gained an edge” in their negotiations to buy MGM, who own the film rights to The Hobbit.

The Lord of the Rings : The Third Age

Both IGN.com and Gamespot.com have released new sets of screencaps for The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. The screencaps show Ents, Trolls and the Argonath statues.

Irish Film and Television Awards 2004

The Irish Film and Television award nominations have been announced and Return of the King has been nominated for the Jameson International Film Award. The other films nominated include Lost in Translation and Mystic River. There are further details about the awards here.

The award winners will be announced on 30th October and the ceremony will be broadcast in Ireland on RTÉ One in November.
