Tolkien evening courses – Cardiff University, UK

Cardiff University Centre for Lifelong Learning has added two evening courses and an online course exploring the world & works of Tolkien to its Autumn Schedule.

From Literature to Film: Myth, Language and Ideology in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Fiction commences on 2nd October2007. ‘Fantasy Worlds from William Blake to Buffy, the Vampire Slayer will look at Tolkien’s contribution to the fantasy genre by examining his construction of the alternative world of Middle Earth. This course commences on 22nd January 2008.An Online Course ‘Exploring Tolkien – There & Back Again’ begins in October 2007

Middle Earth Trivia Night

Join us on Saturday August 18th at 8pm EST in CoE’s #councilfree chat room for our first ever Middle Earth Trivia Night. So come on in and show off your knowledge of all things Lord of the Rings!

Happy anniversary to the CoE Realms

Today, 10th August marks the 4th anniversary of the CoE Realms. There are fourteen different Realms which are named after the Valar of Ilúvatar. You can find out more about the Realms here.

Tolkien letter for sale

A letter written by Tolkien to Elise Honeybourne is up for auction at rrauction.com. In the letter, written in 1967, Tolkien indicates that he wrote the Lord of the Rings because he wished ‘to try my hand at a really long story that would hold the attention of readers, amuse them, delight them, and at times maybe excite them or deeply move them.’.

Lord of the Rings Symphony

On 28th and 29th September the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra will perform. Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings Symphony. The performance features the May Festival Chorus, Cincinnati Children’s Choir and will be conducted by Markus Huber. There are further details about this event here.

Dominic Monaghan at Comic Con

The London Film and Comic Con is returning to the capital city, and with Merry’s help it’s bigger and better than ever before. The event will be held at Earls Court, London, UK on 1st and 2nd September 2007. There are further details about the event here .

T-shirt contest winners
